About a month ago, I started apprenticing a friendly guy at my father's work that does all of the building's computer stuff.

Through the month I've been working with him; he's taught me the basic know-how of building PCs and the like.

Just today, he sent me an e-mail of the parts I would need to build my first gaming PC.

Now, I'm not looking for super-duper graphix here, I'm just looking for something to play recently released games on, like Far Cry 3, Civ 5, and Bioshock: Infinite.

I was just curious if this would do for an above-decent rig for the more recent games. For around $1000, I would be thinking so. And then I also need to put into consideration the price of two monitors and a keyboard.

So, Escapadiers. Thoughts? Is this a good enough build for a first timer?

This is a good rig you're getting. With one tiny tweak. Get yourself an HDD for mass storage. That SSD will be great for your games, sure, but then where are you going to put everything else? A 500GB WD Caviar Black will put you at $1003, or the Caviar Blue will put you at $988 with a smaller memory cache. I imagine any difference in performance will be almost imperceptible to you, so it's just a matter of wanting the bigger number.

Annnnnnnd that's the only issue I'm seeing here.

Get a hard drive of at least 1TB and instead of 8 GB RAM, get two of 4 GB to get better performance.

Yeah get two 4GB sticks of RAM. I'd also upgrade that GPU to a 660 ti or 760. Other than that though it's all good.
