This is way, way back when Counter-Strike was still THE FPS multi-player game to play. I'd say it was back in 2003, 2004 or so.

I was in a clan called [P.O.C] (stood for Pawns of Chaos, they don't exist anymore) back then, under the alias of The Killer's King. Unoriginal and cocky, but I'd be damned if it wasn't true. I was one of the better players in the clan and a couple of us were playing on our favorite server. The level was de_aztec, a personal favorite of mine next to cs_assault.
It was still early on in the game, just a round or two after the initial pistol round. I'd been having a poor start without many kills and our team not faring all too well against the mixture of my fellow clan mates and server regulars, but we weren't upset about it all.

For this particular round I'd decided to take the role of a sniper and purchased myself a Scout sniper rifle, primary and secondary ammo and full armor with my last bit of money. For the record, I was a terrorist so we were supposed to plant the bomb. It didn't take long for our team to get annihilated. Four of my teammates dead, two of theirs down and me alone with a puny Scout and a Glock against two Colt Commandos and a Steyr AUG, I didn't think I had much of a chance.
I was on the terrorist side of the wooden bridge when two of them came rushing at me as I was going across. I quickly dodged to the side after firing a shot at them, missing completely since I was moving. Dropping into the water, I kept the Scout out for some unseen reason and waited for them to follow me. No surprise, they came tumbling down after me. I fired again, but once more missed. Abandoning the Scout I got out my pistol, the little Glock I had left.

A firefight ensued with my catching a few rounds from the automatic fire as I fired wildly with my Glock. The third person quickly joined his friends just before I took one of them down with my first clip. Somehow I actually managed to survive it all, circle-strafing and jumping - this is before they stopped the bunny hopping - like a madman to avoid the fire from my enemies as I reloaded and with my second clip I took down my second assailant. Getting my Scout out again, I managed to pop the last in the head.
I glanced down at my health and coughed when I saw the readout. 20hp remaining. All it had taken was a single bullet more to have hit me, and I would have died.

The server was completely silent for a full two seconds before the shouting started. "DUDE, WHAT THE HELL!?", "HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AMAZING!" and cries of amazement filled the talk-chat (the server had all talk on, so both teams could hear each other). Me, all I could do was laugh.

True story.

I think my all time favorite moment in my gaming history was Operation Flashpoint! A golden oldie, I did the single most incredible thing I have ever accomplished, and broke the game!!! (sort of)

So what happened was, about 3-4 missions into the original single player campaign, you play an American infantryman trying to escape the island of Malden with your squad as the Russian army sweeps across the countryside and tries to kill/capture you. The mission, if the player actually follows orders, happens by the player attempting to escape off the island, finding it impossible, then tries to meet up with some covert ops guys who will help you escape, only to find their camp destroyed and yourself surrounded by Ruskies, then you are captured, mission ends.

However, when I attempted it (this was my first attempt!) I got my squad killed in the most pointless skirmish imaginable (machine-guns vs tanks, definitely doesn't work :p ), so I legged it, and managed to kill a small infantry patrol in the woods in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse. I stole a dropped RPG, then ran back to the tanks, but they had all disappeared except for one, which I shot and immobilized. The AI in the game isn't very bright, so the 3 crewmen jumped out (instead of just killing me with the turret) and I gunned them down. I got into the tank, and actually found I could limp it over to a nearby gas station which had an unmanned repair vehicle right outside, as luck would have it! After repairing the tank fully, I went to the coastal village I was meant to go to, only to find a squadron of tanks, a few APC's, and nearly a company of Russian infantry. I was supposed to be on foot and afraid at this moment, according to the level design, but instead I was in a war machine and feeling pretty ballsy. I sniped the tanks from a distance with my own armoured beast, then mowed down all the infantry who were now charging me. I got to the beach, and managed to immobilise one APC. The crew again jumped out (this was the original release of the game, no patches :D ), and I killed them, stole the APC, repaired it at the petrol station down the road, and then (as the Russian APC's in the game are amphibious) I drove it into the sea and sailed away to safety!

And can you believe it, the game wouldn't let me progress!!! I had to drive back to the island and let myself be captured in the pre-established cutscene. All my hard work, and I was essentially railroaded back onto the storyline. Ah well, that is like every single FPS anyway, and I didn't like the game any less for it. An absolute classic, it's just a shame OpFlash wasn't more widely celebrated. Still, the sequel is out soon, so the new generation has a chance to (hopefully) go through a similar, if not better, experience that I did. The original OF was such a great game for war stories, hopefully the sequel will be just as good...

This is ages ago from when Half-life 2 deatmatch came out.
I was playing on a map with a rocket launcher, but it's on a level above ground level where you spawn and you have to walk right under the ledge to climb the ladder up. Meaning anyone waiting hanging around where the rocket spawns can easily shoot you. The enemy team had one person who refused to leave the area and was camping the only way. I was starting to get annoyed about my lack of fun with rockets so I decided to make a try at getting up and taking over the ledge. I knew I'd never make it if I just ran, so I picked up a bench and charged towards the ledge. When I was about halfway through the killing ground I fired off the bench so I could sprint to the ladder. I just made it to the ladder when I see in the corner, I killed someone with a thrown object. Climbing up i find the enemy player dead underneath my bench. With an evil laugh I use the bench to block the entrance and then proceeded to blow the enemy team to pieces.

For the hell of putting it in:

-={Team Fortress 2}=-
-Punched out soldier, Demoman, and engineer in quick succession while on defense and the first point already taken, but charging the enemy base anyway.
-Punched out Heavy medic combo
-Punched out two pyros in succession
-Punched out a (sapped)Tier three turret after it was reactivated by the engineer then proceeded to punch out the engineer, A sniper who came through the teleport, The dispenser, another engineer who came through the teleport, the teleport exit then was backstabbed.
-Punched out a cloaked spy who was behind me moments before I spun around and swung my fist(Which I do quite often as a spy backstab preventative) before he could decloak and backstab me
-Punched a sniper who was trying to Kukri me when he jumped and I shot him off a cliff.
-Found that players either find a heavy with he fists out to be an acceptable threat or just don't care and take the easy kill instead of laughing at the charging heavy.

Epilogue:
Fist patrols are far and few between nowadays.

i get so many epic moments, my stories would be a J.R.R Tolkien series. lets just say one: During a clan match in CoD4, january 2 months after the game was released; I was in such a well hidden spot in the map Pipeline, that as i took carefully aimed potshots at the last remaining guy, i kept hitting him through the walls as the little poor fool tried to run across one of the large buildings, he ran off the edge and fell to his death on the muddy floor, a mere story and a half, the falls that only give you a tiny rim of red around your hud, indicating minuscule damage. Poor SoB, he didnt even know my remaining teammates where on both exits waiting to knife his poor ass. This is just one of those moments where you are glad you are on the good(skilled) team. The m14 rules.

I was playing CoD:5 at a friends house. It was... Cliffside? I dunno. Hopefully thats enough information for you.

Right, well I was hiding on a flag in war, and then a flare and a smoke drops right on me. I know I'm boned, but then a guy runs in, not noticing me. Then three more. Then one more. I am still sitting there, totally safe. I pull out a grenade, and know I only have one chance. I hold it. A few seconds later, Boom. 5 kills with one suicide grenade. I was flipping out. Me and my friend were like "WOOOOOO!"

I don't know how this worked out, but it was in WaW.

You know how when you're alive and facing an enemy, how your name shows up over your head.

I don't know if it glitched, or the guy shooting at me was new.

We're on Asylum, and this is only about my 4th game ever. I've been getting killed so many times in that game already, about 12. I had maybe 1 kill. I was running through, in a crouched position, covering some of the better players from behind. Then, I see it. That red bar that shows that you were shot, at the bottom of the screen.I start to panic, like I always do. I'm thinking that he's gonna keep shooting me, and I'm gonna lose my spot. I'm afraid that people were gonna make fun of me for my kill/death ratio, all of the worries you have when you're doing something new.

My palms are sweating. No one is talking in the mic, too focused on their own fights. I take a deep breath, and the action begins.

Wasting no time, I spin around and take a couple of shots to the guy, while he's unloading on me. The red bar is getting thicker, and I can hear my character's heartbeat. I had to kill him, or I was going to die.

Sure enough, my clip was empty. I didn't have any time to reload. Most likely, in 2 shots, I'd be dead. I didn't know what made me do it, but I had wanted to try to do it. With the next hit, I dived to the ground from my crouch, throwing my only grenade at him to sidetrack him. I reload just as the smoke clears, and the guy looks at me for no more than a second.

As he turned so that his back was towards me, I had just completely played dead. I unloaded the rest of my clip into him faster than you shoot the Tank in L4D. As he dropped to the ground, and I saw my name go up, showing off that I had gotten one of my kills.

I was overjoyed. I was telling everyone on my mic what I'd just done. As I explained, I forgot I was still almost dead, as one more guy came up from behind and shot me in the back.

Please do! I believe the nature of first-person shooters makes it easier to recall tense situations and personal feats of glory. But as you can see there have been some great Starcraft posts, a CoH story, and even a Warhammer 40k tabletop post, not to mention Shawn Elliott's recollection of an MK II battle in the article itself, so anything goes :)

By the way, I didn't expect such a thunderous response, great stories everyone!

Call of Duty 2 clan matches at age 12? You have some of the best writing I've ever observed from a 15 year old.

My stories don't really get much pumping, as Im usually playing sims and strategy games, but my gaming experiences have given me widom I now donate to current world leaders: my time in civilization 2 has taught me that four well-placed thermonuclear weapons really can bring positive change in the world.

Well, now I look like a dunce, don't I? I suppose I was 14 then, I was 12 when I joined the clan...It all seems like a century ago anyways!

Years ago me and my brother would play round after round of Bushido Blade for the PS1 and we would play long after the round counter re-zeroed usually with my brother having the most victories but one day while at Sears I saw a promotional cheat sheet that described a special move that Utsusemi could pull off that was began with an odd windmill like attack that was quickly followed by a series of devastating slashes. They day I used it against my brother inspired a quick round of curses from my brother and he learned to fear my windmill attack. I so wish Square would do a third game but the developer Light weight had a dispute with them so it will never happen.

30 seconds left on the second map of pl_goldrush, i was the only one left alive and their were 3 scouts, a medic and a soldier on the cart. Me vs. the cart. the soldier fired a critical rocket on me and i reflected it in the PERFECT position to kill all 3 scouts and the medic, leaving just the soldier. He killed me but i held out for long enough for my team to respawn. Closest i was to crying during a team fortress game.

Oh, thank god. I was doing math in my head the whole time. CoD2 was in 2005... 4+12... 16... Because the accompanying picture totally doesn't look like just a high-schooler. But I didn't want to look like some old fart and call you out over your age, because if it was true, then I'd be unfairly critical of someone with obvious writing talent.

Anyhow, my moment was in CoD:UO on the merciless mod. My clan held CTF scrims wherein half the clan fought the other half. The map was Sicily, and our division, 3rd (the clan was divided into six divisions, which allowed for the battle commanders to designate tasks) was charged with holding the right approach to the German flag against said Germans. Since this hill was the easiest for a potential flag stealer to run up, it came under the most fire, especially when someone had taken the Germans' flag. I set up a heavy machine gun on the hill overlooking the flag and shot down guy after guy, only succumbing to sniper fire. The game was to five flag caps, and when we had four, I fired till I ran out of ammo, and then announced to the guys in 3rd that I was going for it. So I switched to pistol, charged down the hill, grab the flag, and ran back up it, with the Germans hot on my tail. But as we had all game, 3rd defended the man with the flag. I made it back safely and got the game winning cap. We won 5-0, with 3rd getting 2 of those caps.

At an annual event in my town the touring nintendo truck would show up and have lots of little games and contests for fun.

I was hanging around playing for laughs when this mouthy little snot was going on and on about the Melee tournament and how he was going to smoke everyone. This kid definitely seemed to be more balls than brains, so I decided to enter so I could hang around and watch him get his comeuppance.

Problem...he kept winning. He and Kirby tore up each battlefield, and this kid was a HORRIBLE winner. A real jackass. Given the chance, the nicest person I know (Myself, really) would pop this kid right in the mouth.

I make the Quarters, and my opponent is our Pint-Sized pain. To most everyone, my survival this long using Bowser is seen as sheer luck, which everyone assumes is about to run out. 2 Minute Match aboard the Great Fox, Corneria. The whole two minutes pass without a single KO, so it's off to sudden death. Kirby's further right than I am when we spawn for it, so he goes straight for the rear of the ship and gets under the back fin.

I'm f***ed. I gotta be...but I won't wait for the Bob-ombs, so I make a gamble...I jump over the fin and fake a drop into Kirby's shelter...then aerial-dodge...the timing was just right...his Final Cutter passed right through me and left him grabbing the fin just as a Bob-omb decided to say hello to him...and good bye.

The audience ROARED. I never felt so big. Junior was a horrible sport and stomped off like a kid on the playground sick of being It in tag.

I lost the next round to a guy playing Dr. Mario, damn he made me sweat. We shook hands...and he congratulated me on dousing the poor sport, and giving him a hard fight. Best loss ever after best win ever.

My roomie and I were playing BF2142, he was flying the gunship and I was operating the guns. A AAA turret in a tower opened up on us from the ground, I jumped out of the gs, opening my shoot below the turret operator's line of sight. He was distracted shooting at my still flying roomie, I sneaked up on him, knifed him and took his dog tags. And teabagged the crap out of him before my pilot came and picked me up. My first parachute/knife/bushwhack kill.

One day me and my freinds were playing 4 player, split screen,Gears of war2, and decided to do horde mode. We were feeling rather suicidal so we pumped it to the highest difficulty and set off to get our asses handed to us. We survived the first 6 waves with no problem, come wave 9 we were gettin scared but something happened on wave 10.
Two of the guys went down. We had gotten sneak attacked by a flamer, then me and Zack(who hate each other in a freind way) got back to back in the center of the map blasting away with sniper rifles. boomer to the left, head gone, flamer to the right, exploding pack. It wasn't till after a good 3/4 of the wave was gone that we realized we were winning. Unfortunately at that point we came out the "ultra gamer" moment and got chainsawed to death.

Resistance 2. Team Deathmatch. Real bottom of the ninth scenario here. Our team was hammered from the offset, and despite a glorious effort to pull it back, we were still losing.

What followed was a dozen confirmed kills, and pure gaming glory.

My first kill was some poor sucker who rounded a corner. Never saw me coming. Bullseye at point blank.
My Berserk was now active. I used Invisibility, and sprinted off in search of prey.

Another target, facing the wrong way. Cut him down without thinking. Then a third, sniping. Sprint across open ground to find a Wraith ahead of me. Tag & Bag. Number five spotted me, uncloaked since I'd unloaded half a clip. A tag round got him square in the face, and the volley popped his skull.

Wounded now, I went for cover. Enemy six was waiting, but he'd been hurt himself. I was on 10% health, maybe less, when he toppled.

Time was running out now, both for my Berserk and my team. I turned right, spotted a Pulse Cannon toting Chimera and went for a Hedgehog grenade. Boom. Got him before he could line up the shot.

Then I was off again; three enemies packed in. I just wild-fired. With the Invisibility active I didn't show on radar, so they didn't think to check their six. They must have assumed the guy in front was doing all the damage.

Getting shot from behind, I panicked again. Ran for cover, Berserk howling a warning, I circled and butchered my would-be assailant. Now I was in trouble - low on health again with a Splicer-toting Steelhead closing fast. I had another grenade off the corpse of the player I just killed. I threw it, jinked into cover, and heard the ping of a confirmed kill.

And it was over - I'd got the last kill of the round, and we'd pipped the other team to victory by three kills.

The first Guilty Gear back when the game was actually hard and not the easy fest it is now. Beat all the characters without getting killed once. Beat Judgement after getting smacked up by him before. He had me down to almost no health. Thought it was over. Did the dragon power up, it looked so cool screaming like that. Hit him with dragon flare special, he dies, best feeling gaming. Then I get to fight Baiken, beat him or her too.

My other favorite is winning about 71 times in a row at Soul Calibur. Or getting high and totally destroying the best players in my school at Halo with the human weapons. Or in Suikoden II, finding out a way to recruit one of the generals in the beginning. My friend had no idea how I did it, but I pulled it off. Super Mario 3, Bowser stomps himself to his own doom, that was fun. Games back in the day were fun and hard so a win was real cool but nowadays, anyone can pull off a win so it sucks really. I knew games were getting too easy with all those retards on Halo 2 were able to hang with me. If there's nothing at stake, of course you are good. But let me see you pull something out of your heiny when you are in danger........

In my opinion, every gaming generation is soft. I don't care about Left 4 Dead man there is no stakes high enough to persuade me that anyone can beat me in a serious game even with cheat codes and your buddies. Man I know this girl who beat me down in regular Street Fighter II. That's how I knew that game was too easy because there is no girl on this planet who can beat me in anything. I broke out Tekken and Capcom vs. SNK II, slaughtered her but she was still winning a few matches. Girls are good at games, but I'm the best. So really, all games suck unless its Super Mario 1-3 and those super hard core Nintendo years. If you really want to show me how nice you are, then you better have Gaiden up there too even the one for Xbox. If not, I don't care how many posts you make on this board, you might be a gamer but you suck at it.
