Nonono, bats look nothing like mice, this sort of thing really annoys me.Zachary Amaranth said:Similarly, no matter how dark they make Batman, he's always a man dressed up as a mouse with wings.
Yes, and it annoys me that apparently we can only have 'dark' themes if everything is 'realistic' and gloomy and gritty.Zachary Amaranth said:You know, this shouldn't really need to be said, but it's okay to have a single franchise out there that isn't dark and broody. Not everyone needs to be Batmanified. Especially Superman.
I mean, it's fine if you don't like Superman. But he needs to be dark and gritty about as much as My Little Pony does.
You Sir have accurately summed up my opinions on this subject. I'd give you a cookie, but I ate them all myself. Suit = fine.Jandau said:Honestly, I don't see what the problem with the costume is. Man of Steel had many many problems, but Superman's outfit was not one of them. Also, isn't it a bit silly to complain about a superhero having a slightly different costume, when most superheroes go through so many costume changes during their lifetime that it requires a wiki to keep track of it all? The costume is fine, the red shorts would look needlessly silly to uninitiated audiences, since their origin (carnival strongmen) has long since departed from the mainstream cultural consciousness and would simply come off as a guy wearing his underwear outside his pants.
I was wondering if I was the only one that saw that.. I swear his temples are a little grey, and is that a white streak as well?RealRT said:Okay, so why does he look twenty years older than in the previous film? Wasn't Batman supposed to be the older one?
No, as far as I can tell it wasn't supposed to be set that many years after MoS. It's Batman and Superman's first meeting and Bats is supposed to be some kind of a mentor for Supes.elvor0 said:Isn't everyone supposed to be older? Oh well bugger me. We'll blame whoever came up with that overly broody image then.RealRT said:No, as far as I can tell it wasn't supposed to be set that many years after MoS. It's just glibness for effect. Same with "rats with wings." I just like "mice" because more people like mice and think they're cute. Makes it easier to mock the silliness of a guy in a cape and cowl.Lieju said:Nonono, bats look nothing like mice, this sort of thing really annoys me.
I would think being the last of your kind would definitely be a dark issue. And it's been played as such in the comics without sacrificing his whole hopeful symbolism and the like. But yeah. People see bright colours and associate it with stuff for children and insist that things need to be more "mature," which means more violent with more blood and more nudity and more "grit" and literal darkness (muted colours, emphasis on shadow, etc).Yes, and it annoys me that apparently we can only have 'dark' themes if everything is 'realistic' and gloomy and gritty.
Superman's backstory inherently includes some pretty darn dark things, like his whole species dying off.
Making things colourful and including fun and happy things will only give the darker things much needed contrast.
