I thought that the movie sucked. I have no idea where its positive reviews came from. It seemed very generic. Apparently, it's supposed to have a comedic side, but that didn't change anything. Wasn't a good horror movie, and it wasn't funny.

To this day, I am bewildered by its positive reviews. Perhaps I need to see it again.

Probably Devil. My goodness me, that was a bad movie that thought it was good.

The intro, which sets an amazing standard, is a moving shot of the New York skyline, but get this.....it's upside-down.

Why?

The Devil, man.

But the ending...
It's pretty clear as day though. I already suspected the coin was in the envelope the moment I saw her sitting at the diner. Mainly enforced by the fact that this is going for the classic horror movie ending where the terror makes one final appearance. And after she thinks she's safe, she's in such a good mood with seemingly everything suddenly going her way, you just knew something was going to fuck up her day big time.

I liked it well enough, but it does make rewatching it rather pointless. Since the whole movie rides on whether or not she's going to make it, not how this slow decent into hell is changing her or whatever.

A movie you got angry at is better then a movie you forgot about. I enjoyed the movie my self and was annoyed at the end because she worked so hard to live.

My primary problem with Drag Me to Hell was one of the same problems I had with Surrogates and the train wreck that was the Russell Crowe Robin Hood: the final scene of the movie was featured in all the trailers hitting my television and elsewhere for weeks before I saw it. That's a good way to take the oomph out of your conclusion, especially when the conclusion is the climax, as is the case in Drag Me to Hell.

Edit: And yeah, I made an account here just to share that.
I never saw any of the trailers, I had never even heard of it as far as I can remember. It just showed up on tv. So in that sense, it wasn't 'spoiled' for me. But, yeah. I hate it when trailers do that. Isn't that just crappy marketing?

That said, I must personally disagree with calling the ending "genius." Horror movies are always hateful of their leads, and love depressing endings.
Pretty much this. I hate a Hollywood/pat ending, but horror movies so routinely end on the "GOTCHA!" moment it's become an aggravating routine all it's own. Such as the Dawn of the Dead remake, where they escape to this tiny little island in the middle of nowhere. Whoops, nope, it's full of a huge mob of raging, dashing zombies too. Whee!

I like a downbeat ending like Seven, where it comes about because of the villain's intelligence or manipulation (although Seven is not a conventional horror film by any means), rather than by a supernatural ability to cheat the rules of the film as we have come to understand them. Or, as you say, a downbeat ending because the film is just a wrenching drama, like Moon, or The Wrestler, or Breaking the Waves. Not because "LOL she fucked up the button! Evil wins again!".

Fist bump for solidarity. I saw this many, many years ago, when it was relatively new, and had almost the exact same reaction. It's unwatchable.

300 for being a shitty piece of shit.

Evangelion 3.0. Otherwise I'd have been only confused by it (btw, that's a massive understatement), but after seeing some fan reactions to it it fills me with fury.

This movie, this fucking movie...

I just saw it on tv a half hour ago, and it was one of the best horror movies I've ever seen.
Just the right balance between horror, suspense and even comedy.

But the ending... (SPOILER ALERT: STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT, NOW!)
It helps, If like me you were never really that much on the main characters side.

I'll grant they did set it up, but at the same time...why did Justin Long put the coin in an envelope to begin with? Why did SHE put the button in an envelope? Why not at least check to make sure?

It's not so much a plot hole as it is characters' stupidity being too contrived.
The reason he put the coin in an envelope is because a coin can be easy to lose and when you're collecting something, you don't want to accidentally lose or spend it. An envelope is somewhat harder.

I imagine she put the button in an envelope because she doesn't want to lose the button, because then there is no hope.

But yes, she should have looked. And she shouldn't have gotten into her car without checking for crazy gipsy ladies. Or annoyed the gipsy lady in the first place. Hindsight is usually 20/20.

OT: The Dark Knight Rises, for reasons I won't get into. It's too long.
I didn't really like any of the Nolan Batman movies...the best representation of Batman in that trilogy happened here (in my opinion):

Everything went downhill from there for me. I'm not seething with rage at these things but I did come close when it came to Dark Knight Rises...more or less the same title as the second one plus an R-word (you don't loose credit since it wasn't an RE-word), Bane and Batman are using hilarious comedy voices, Nolan is too ashamed of the source material to use Catwoman or indeed, Batman's sidekick Robin (or Nightwing). Also, the nuke would have still caused a ton of damage to the city AND the surrounding sea...or ocean...whatever that body of water was...What really irks me though is the length of the Dark Knight trilogy. DKR was two and three-quarters hours in length and it just seemed like a huge, fluffy waffle. Except of course for the part where Bane cleaned up the city using anarchy and, Bruce Wayne was rendered nearly handicapped thanks to his knees having lost all cartilage...I wonder how much time, in those 7 hours 34 minutes, are dedicated to Batman kicking the asses of thugs, mooks and, rouges.

I maintain the opinion that Batman Returns is the best Batman film. I feel it was a better representation of the universe. But it really annoys me when everybody jizzes themselves over Nolan's films and refuse to acknowledge Burton's films.

The former I understand to a degree, but if he's a coin collector then shouldn't he have put it somewhere for collection purposes? Like, I dunno, one of those books you're supposed to put the coins in? That thing was in the car for days. For something he apparently wanted for a long time he seemed to not give a shit after having it.

And I can also understand the button in an envelope, but here's another thing: give it to the lady's family. They're clearly horrible people because, like it or not, she was just doing her job and that gypsy had been given many extensions on her loan to begin with. Usually I wouldn't think that but I have no sympathy for any of the gypsies in that movie.

Evangelion 3.0. It made no sense. It somehow made less sense than the TV series. It goes beyond Mind Screw; it's sticking its bishie cock into my eye until I bleed logic. Whywhywhywhywhy? Is he in Heaven? Hell? Is he on drugs? What's happening? Is that blue haired girl real? Was she a dream? I hate the red headed one. Hey, where the fuck are the cool robots, that's why I came here.... uuuuuughhh.... stooooooooop....

i am jelous of you guys. you get enraged of movies. ive seen way too many movies (my imdb history is counting over 3000) so i usually just go "meh" followed by "so should i give it a 7 or a 6". now ive seen plenty of truly terrible zgrade horror shlock, and i saw great movies too, but hardly any left an impact that would get me raging. thats in part of why i hardly use movie discussion boards even though i spend more time in movie watching than gaming, i just became sort of indifferent.
That being said one movie stood out, and that is Battlefield Earth. This is probably because i think that the novel is the best book ever written. The movie however is the level of Monster of Yuka Flats bad, with characters mixed up, names changed and plot being completely different. That movie wasnt battlefield earth. It would be as comparison if somone took a superman movie and called it batman because both feature crimefighting. I could ramble about that movie forever. its awful.

Man of Steel, for reasons almost too numerous to count, mostly having to do with its genericness and lack of character. No small talk, regular people inexplicably wise, military fetishism and dickhead characters shoehorned in where I don't care for them to be, dialogue uninteresting, lens flare overwhelming, villain stupid. And I don't even like Superman so I don't have betrayal to add to the mix.

She did everything she could, she literally pushed the curse down the *****'s throat, and still she didn't make it?! I haven't been this angry at a movie ever. This can't end here, right? Right?
Was there anyone here who was as angry at this final gutpunch? Is there a sequel? I couldn't find any information about this, but this can't be IT, right?

Ugh, I'm sorry if this post doesn't make any sense, I've just never felt anything like this for a movie before.

So to have this make a point besides my well justified rage, and because I'm quite interested at what you guys find rage-worthy; what was the first movie you ever raged for and why?
It's a Sam Raimi movie. It's meant to be a silly take on horror. The woman getting the envelopes mixed up was the funniest thing in the whole movie for me.

Somebodies already mentioned the Knowing. I remember seeing that movie a long time ago and my entire reaction was me mentally throwing my seat in the theater. It drove me nuts.

But now I think it had to be Chronicle of Riddick. I mean, it starts off on that stupid planet, than the necromongers which I can handle to a degree, THEN OH HELLO ANOTHER RANDOM ASS PLANET. I had no fucking idea what was going on the whole time it enraged me.
