Having seen it six times (not ALL in theaters) I've decided to make my first "review" an easy one.

Part One: Story

As most have pointed out, Avatar is not a very original concept. The fact that the ending is almost given away in the trailer does further to pad this theory, but this doesn't just make it Pocahontas with ten foot tall blue cat people.

Although the basic outline is simple, the real meat and bones of this movies story come into the way it is told; the animals, ships, locales, people, among other things are very original in their own right. The reason this story works so well is that Jame's Cameron pulled it off nearly flawlessly.

Part Two: The Characters

The characters in Avatar are a real mixed bag. Although they are interesting and original in their own right, the way they portrayed is so one sided and corny it's hard not to laugh at points.

The Military is viewed as a bunch of incompetent trigger happy psychos. The Na'vi are the purest of all organic life forms, they only what need be, they respect their world, and live in harmony with it. The whole RDA in general is such a polar opposite of that it's beyond cheesy.

Part Three: The Presentation

This is where the film shines spectacularly. The visuals are beyond gorgeous. Every single painfully made frame (1/24th of a second) took 48 hours to make. The amount of dedication put into this movie's effects is incredible.

There isn't a Phantom Menace effect here either, the CG is so believable and well done it leaves no uncanny valley effect, only a feeling of awe. Seeing this in 3D is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had in a cinema. Avatar should truly be praised for such a feat.

Part Four: Wrap Up

What it misses in story, it makes up for in presentation, what it lacks in character development, it makes up for in presentation, what it lacks in everything is made up a hundred fold by the presentation.

Avatar is a movie that should not be missed, and it really needs to be seen in theaters, and in 3D to get the full effect of that.

The only trigger happy psychos were the Head Merc, the bald annoying guy who gets crushed by the rhino thingy and the sleazy corporation guy.

Jake and Michelle Rodriguez's character were both in the military and neither wewre trigger happy psychos.
