first time setup for direct x on steam.

When I try to play borderlands it will tell me that it is installing direct x but it never loads after that, it just closes the window. this happens EVERY time i try to load it.

PLEASE HELP!

Do you have Dx installed?

I usually just press cancel on Dx when it's installing and it just moves onto the next thing. I'll update it from the site every now and then though.

Alright, whilst it's stuck and hanging on "Installing Direct x first time setup (blah blah)", go to task manager and find the Direct x process, then kill it. I'm certain all Steam does is wait for the program to close before moving on and doesn't get any confirmation Dx has actually been installed.

What steam does is make sure you have all the needed (older) directX files, this is because DX is a mess and doesn't support all the old stuff in newer versions; hence it checking for every game.

Its safe to just skip the option like the guys above me said though.
