Truly violent? Soldier of Fortune, when I was 15. First time I played a game where the bad guys would hold their guts, after me having shot them out with a shotgun.

Loved this game. Liked the second one when you could blow half of their head off with a mini-Uzi

Does Doom count? Because I recall playing it and having no clue what to do. I saw a bunch of guys on the ground, but it never occurred to me that they might be *gasp* dead! I thought they looked pretty cool though.

I remember all the fuss that GTA caused in the media; I was only a kid at the time but knew it was silly even then. "First game" threads make me feel old sometimes, when people say that their first game of whatever category was something that came out when I was 20.
