What's the appeal of typing FIRST! into a comment box? I see FIRST!'s popping up for like 30 mins to an hour after videos are uploaded onto youtube and other video sharing sites. If you're first we'll all know because it's obvious, and pretty insignificant, so why even bother. What do you think, do you do it? If so why?

First! I have no clue actually, it's annoying as hell and I despise people who waste the space on the forums, so no I don't do it (unless as an act of sarcasm)

In all seriousness, people just want others to notice how idiotic they are.

Edit: Damn you Ninja!

People like to be recongnized. Even if it's just to be known as "that one guy who saw that video first." It even happens on this site. Just look at some of the first few posts from ZP vids and you will occasionally see "First" or people who post right after the video is uploaded.

Because people are idiots. Really, they are. When people post "FIRST!!!!", you can chalk them up as knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, extra chromosome-having, first-class, A-grade morons. Then, if you're ever given the task of increasing the average intelligence of the human race, through any means, no matter how bloody and brutal, you can take that list, go around to each of their houses, then repeatedly bludgeon them to death.

Alternately, you could just use the replies on YouTube videos as your hitlist. The end result will be the same.

People with no lives need to be reconised somewhere and they try to stand out on the internet, irony is they get hated for the very thing they do to get attention.

Thats my theory anyway

I have no idea why people do it, it just makes them look like a tosser. More so if they aren't actually first.

People need attention. Some people need it so bad they'll make themselves look like complete douches in order to get it.

I bet you're not the First! to say this. It's probably for as feeling of dominance.
"HA, I got here before you and posted! No ninja is a match for the likes of me!"

I suppose it's just a personal goal people set. That they will be the first person to respond to a topic faster then anyone else, and only thing they can type is FIRST

When I FIRST saw this thread I FIRST wanted to be the FIRST one to post the FIRST post.

All that aside I think "FIRST" has become a internet meme and we all know what happens after that...

Time to use what my friend who studies psychology tells me all the time - it's a sense of existentialism. Basically by being "first" and therefore recognised somehow as being the best because of their skill to be first, they create a feeling of accomplishment and wellbeing beyond that which they would normally be able to achieve with their own lives. They project themselves onto the public arena in such a way as to make them feel better about themselves through what they see as an accomplishment. Something along those lines, without actually studying it it's hard to re-iterate what he always said.
