What about battered sausages? Are they acceptable? and HP or Barbecue sauce instead of the dreaded Ketchup?

You know you are eating a meal thats far superior to anything else when animals from a 5-mile radius all flock for your Fish & Chips instead of going for literally any number of other food supllies, they all abandon their natural food for the Fish & Chips.

To the people who dont know the effects of Fish & Chips I will explain, if you ever see a person surrounded by a thousand seagulls you can guarantee that person has Fish & Chips.

Ketchup on fish!? Ugggh, I have nightmares about being a dumb child... ;_;

But yeah. When I pop over to the local food court, I get fish and chips, whether they're prepared for it or not. Nine-o-clock in the morning fish and chips... Mmmmmmm...

I think they're getting desperate enough to ban me from the shop.

Hmm, I have always ate them with tartare sauce.

EDIT: You forgot the greatest side for fish'n'chips, PINEAPPLE FRITTERS!

It's not ketchup. It's called Tomato Sauce and I'll put it on whatever I damn well please. Except for fish, lemon juice goes on fish and sometimes tartare sauce should be used with the chips.

Stupid other countries getting it wrong.

Otherwise I agree that it makes for a pretty good meal.

I screw with my malt vinegar adding a tiny bit of brown sugar, ground pepper, old bay seasoning, season salt, paprika, garlic, cayenne pepper, and a squirt of lemon juice.

Try it! the sweetness of sugar and spices add a slight kick to the tart malt of the vinegar. It's absolutely divine.

It's even more insane if you mix in a wok/pan and sear it into the fish and chips after letting set for a few seconds.

Bah, when it comes to fritters the one true fritter is the PAUA FRITTER (abalone fritters to people who weren't introduced to them in New Zealand).

You know...considering we're a melting pot over here in the US I'd have thought there'd be at least a few places here that serve something like that. I've not seen a single place. It's a bit of a crime, I must say. I think I'd greatly enjoy some fish & chips...especially now seeing how hungry I am.

EDIT: Allow me to fine-tune that statement. There are no places that serve fish & chips like that in my area.

I myself live in the USA, but I love fish and chips. It's the only thing that allows me to satisfy my inner englishman. I think that I am very lucky to have a place that serves this delicious dish near where I live.

I live in a village of under 200 people. We have THREE chippys (two of which you can keep down), a Cafe and a pie shop.

Actually here is a list of acceptable things to eat with chips other than fish and how to eat them;

Pie and chips; Eat chips with fork, shovel pie into your mouth with hands

Chips, Gravy and Mushy Peas; the messy man's choice but a rewarding one. Best eaten 4 days later of yout clothes

Chips and Steak Pudding; The thinking mans pie, eddible with a fork and best when punctured over chips

Egg and Chips; Eatching chips before midday but don't want to admit you are having an 11am breakfast? Egga and chips is always there for you.

Scampy and Chips; not in the mood for for pie? Too busy to cut fish? Scampi is your choice!

Chip Butty; Bap, Barm Cake, Bun or just two slices of bread.

[HEADING=1] So Sayeth the British Isles![/HEADING]

Fun fact; all chippys south of birmingham are considered as chippys for sissy girly men.

[HEADING=1] So Sayeth CANADA![/HEADING]

(seriously ditch the mushy peas and try some cheese curds)

But yeah never heard of Tomato sauce on fish & chips. Here on the West coast of Canada they're always served with a slice of lemon and a side of tartar sauce, though salt pepper & vinegar is always available. I love tartar sauce personally, but I dip my chips in it rather than put it on the fish.

This thread is a bit late, the F&C van comes on Thursday (day of the almighty Thor). Since today is Sunday I'll be having roast beef as dictated by LAW (and science, tasty laws of science).

I eat fish and chips with tarter sauce and my hands. I'm not using your dang limp-wristed version of a fork.

As an Aussie- I'm damn proud of our great tasting fish and chips, and I laugh at the ludicrous notion of using some piddly infant fork to eat it. Call yourself a man? Then get rid of that oversized toothpick!
