Topic line. Post the five games that you think nobody should miss out on, for whatever reason. Pure fun, amazingly gameplay or storytelling, mindless insanity, whatever. Give your five, and if you feel like it, the reasoning. Five is more than enough, it should be a challenge for you to decide.

1) Grim Fandango -With all the recent uproar over Brutal Legend, more people need to experience the greatest game Schaffer ever made.
2) Planescape: Torment -Best writing ever put in a game to this day, and likely for many years to come.
3) Beyond Good and Evil -An excellent blend of gameplay styles, storytelling, and general amusement.
4) Katamari Damacy -To show people you don't need complicated graphics, controls, or story to just have fun.
5) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night -The best 2D adventure game ever, better than even Super Metroid was. (Yeah yeah, call it blasphemy if you want, doesn't make it less true.)

Couldnt you have replaced #4 with the serious sam games? Theres something about katamari that makes me want to punch people.
Haha nice.
I'm going to do a 3 one because 5 is to much for me.
1. Fire Emblem. Anyone. All the stories kick ass.
2. Pikmen. Love that game.
3. Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne. Awesome story and a bucket of fun.

1) Jet Set Radio Future - Damn you Smilebit. Why did you have to go? I want JSR 3
2) Grim Fandango - Best point and click adventure ever.
3) Oddworld: Strangers Wrath - Great concept and fun gameplay matched by simple controls
4) Psychonauts - A truly interesting and well written game that you won't find duplicated.
5) No More Heroes - Trust me. Graphics aren't all that, but the game holds your interest

Thirteen: despite the comic strip styled graphics it was pretty neat.
One COMPUTER RTS, doesn't matter which they're all essentially the same.
Perfect Dark(the good 64 version.)

Portal-- If I need to tell you why, you're broken.
Geneforge-- High-edge writing up the arse and then some
KOTOR--see above
Fallout 3-- see 1
Gears of War 2-- It's got a gun...that's also a effing CHAINSAW. If you tell me that's not awesome, you have no soul or sense of youthful awe.

EDIT: Screw that, the first two were the only ones I really meant. everything else trembles before the godsent paragon of a game that is Prince of Persia (2008). It was an unforgettable experience, and the only game that I EVER watched the credits for. Plus, it had Nolan North in it. NOLAN EFFING NORTH! (he being The hero from Fable II, Nathan Drake, and more importantly, Deadpool. Mutherphuking Deadpool!)

P.S: Lair, just to show how easily it is to fall into the ocean of s**ttiness.

MGS
MGS 2: Sons of Liberty
MGS 3: Snake Eater
MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots
Whatever the next one will be

They're not the 4 best games ever or anything, but they should be experienced.

1. Halo: A great shooter with a good arsenal, lots of vehicles, and a story!! (figure that in a shooter!)
2. KOTOR : The best story line ever. 'Nuff said
3. TF2 : Awesome team play that's fun to do whatever rendered in a wacky cartoon graphics
4. The Specialists : A Half life 1 mod that will blow your socks off. Technically it doesn't count, but it's just so awesome, it diserves its own recognition (especially since it's still alive after about 8 years!!!)
5: Half Life 2 : Source engine is win, good story, fun gameplay, and physics puzzle

1. Half Life (Original) - Should be obvious. The "root" of all first person shooters, an entirely solid experience, and provides a foundation for comparing any future game.
2. Starcraft - Great story line, fantastic game play, and is the basis for all RTS games.
3. World of Warcraft - Most successful online game (in America). Best representation of the MMORPG genre, and is often referred to the "best game ever created".
4. Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 OR Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Side scrolling plat formers that are both extremely fun. Mario and Castlevania are like apples and oranges to me though, so I couldn't pick which.
5. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Puzzles, adventure, story line; Zelda had it all. This was the breakthrough title for the series that brought it into the mainstream.

Halo - so you can see for yourself how the FPS genre died
Supreme Commander - so you can learn that bigger doesn't always mean better
Oblivion - so you can learn how much you miss good character interaction when it's taken away
Psychonauts - so fanboys can see how Yahtzee's opinions do not represent objective fact
CounterStrike 1.6 - so you can learn from the behaviour of elitist gaming snobs, and swear to never ever be like them

1. Breath of Fire 3
2. Xenogears
3. Wild arms
4. Resident Evil 4
5. Fatal Frame 1

Maybe its just cause I cant seem to find any non rpg or survival horror game that manages to last me longer then a day or 2 before I beat it and I tend to judge a game on how long it can keep me occupied... The first three are without a doubt the most epic rpg's Ive ever played, Resident evil 4 was the one which marked a turning point in the series (namely that it didnt feel like you might as well have used your feet on the controller) and anyone who wants to play a game on the edge of their seat dreading the next encounter with something unfriendly needs to try the fatal frame series
