In all fairness this isn't a bad direction for indie games to be taking. The cheap episodic format is still better than the slow stuck-in-alpha method way more developers go for. Some might see it as saturation but at least they're coming out quickly for the people who enjoy them instead of hanging around incomplete in the news for years at a time like DayZ (not that it's the only one but it's a fun punching bag).

Of course the backstory stuff in this game makes the overall lore more confusing and nonsensical than it was before.

They're just making all this stuff up as they go.

There's no hidden meaning. It all means nothing.
I dunno, I think Game Theory has done a pretty good job at tying it all together.

That said, the theory only holds up so long as the series ends after the 3rd game when all the spirits are finally laid to rest. This one does kinda shoot the continuity in the foot.

I would argue that depends on where in the timeline this one fits (I have yet to watch any footage so I don't know if this has been answered)

I mean, really, at this point it's closer to episodic releases than "sequels". Maybe it'd feel less weird if they were renamed FNAF: Episodes 1, 2, 3 and 4?
Complete different mechanics for the "keep an eye on the electronics" thing disagree with the Episodic Release. The closest would be 2 and 3, but even they have serious key differences in how they work.
Hm, fair enough. Feels like that's it's own kind of category in context of releases. They're small enough and fast enough to be considered episodes, but distinct enough that they're sequels. I think that's why so many people are freaked out by the rapid release schedule.

That said, they do change enough that you can't REALLY call it just coasting on the popularity.

I mean, really. At least each FNAF has more unique elements between games than a given Assassin's Creed release.

this is probably the most inconsequential game in the series. It has nothing to do with the rest the story except for the bite of 87 which you find out who did it and why.
pretty much the protagonist's brother and a group of his asshole friends decide it would be fun to tease you by put your head in the mouth of FredBear (Golden Freddy)which terrifies you. Unfortunately they didn't think the robot had the power to crush a human skull and his frontal lobe is Bitten off, The protagonist is most likely in a coma now having these nightmares. Some people speculated that was the reason the purple man killed the kids but the kids were already murdered when the bite happened
So it's only destroys theories involving the bite of 87 and nothing else

It doesn't even destroy it, it just explains how it happened (as nobody knew) and only "destroys" the suspected victim.
So, yeah, in terms of lore, this game doesn't change much. It adds a few details previous games were missing - even in fleshed out theories like Game Theory - but it doesn't really change anything significant.

oh look, scott couldn't help but release it early. What a surprise.

Oh well, will keep me amused for a couple of hours, and I look forward to mattpatt tearing his hair out some more trying to wrap his head around how it all fits together. Just a pity this will keep the cult of freddy alive for another few months. Things were only just starting to die down.

I'd like to remind everyone that is is the FOURTH GAME IN THIS SERIES IN 50 WEEKS! These games are being churned out twice as fast as EvE Online has expansions, four times as fast as triple A rushed games, 16 times as fast as GTA games, and so on and so forth. How the hell does a game manage to be this massively oversaturated and still sell?
By being games that you could probably complete in an hour or three if you put your mind to it, I'd assume.

Being nearly ten times cheaper than AAA games probably has something to do with it. It's not expensive to at least try out.

Now we wait for the inevitable Game Theory video.

I don't really care for these games, as I find them not to be scary and very much repetitive, though I do find the backstory and lore to be fascinating.

The FNAF games aren't really my cup of tea but it is heartening to see someone who is so enthusiastic about their work that they complete it early and can't wait to get it out. If more people had this kind of passion for what they do we would certainly live in a better world.

I'm exciting about this; I've been really enjoying watching markiplier's let's plays of the series (I'm too jumpy to actually play the game myself). I've been really keen on the lore and I have loved the changes to the mechanics of the game as its gone along (I loved the switch to an AI character in 3 as opposed to the preprogrammed ones from the previous games, even if it wound up being a little to easy to control once you got the hang of it).

I really want a set of those plushies that the kid has.

You can buy the Foxy one right now [http://sanshee.com/store/product/fnaf-foxy-plush] (well, not right now right now because it's out of stock already, but soon), and there are more on the way.
