I used to think I was above internet arguments and dismissed them as trivial, useless affairs where gangs of idiots try to convince each other to change beliefs that neither side really will change. Then I saw one or two threads about the fairness of DLC and realized that for some issues I'm just as stupid as the people who are clearly wrong for dissagreeing with me. (that last part was of course a joke)

anybody else have a flame war they will invariably enlighten with their obviously correct opinion?

I can't help but join in on arguments relating to gender issues on this site.
I've been trying lately to steer clear of them as, most of the time, it's like banging your head against a brick wall. Sometimes responses can be so infuriating that I can't help but reply but lately I've managed to write a long, scathing response but refrain from posting it.

Most of the time I can resist contributing to flame wars but it's always good to read them. Sometimes I wish they weren't shut down so quickly, it's always good to have a bit of drama going on.

I join in flamewars that look fun. Once I did get baited by a troll into one (on this website), and that wasn't fun. I've learned my lesson - if somebody says "Halo fans are like chimpanzees", they are probably trolling.

I cant seem to help saying something at some point when the stupid sexism/sexist/wtfwomen threads come up- though I really shouldn't because some of those threads tend to destroy my faith in the gaming community as a whole.
So normally I just do a snark-and-run.

I try not to get into console flamewars, because I honestly just don't give a shit anymore, they all have pros and cons, and are all built for the same purpose. But sometimes I just have to respond to someone who's either trolling or just so completely biased and naive that it burns my brain.

Otherwise, I could usually just not care less.

Fights about how stupid this thread is. /sarcasm

OT: I can argue about just about anything, provided somebody pisses me off. My pet peeve is people who make ridiculous statements without checking their facts.

I don't tend to take part... But one thing that REALLY GRIPS ME, is people who are ignorant to the truth, and then claim lies without even checking it! Eg. the hordes of people on the internet who bang on about 9/11 and Iraq as though they were related... We went into Afghan in 2001 after 9/11 as a result of Article 5 of the NATO treaty being called into play... Iraq was something different!

Apologies! I've seen a lot of this confusion recently, and it bugs me that people are so stupid they don't bother checking if what they say is correct!!

Law vs people, their rights, dignity and such.
I simply can't walk past arguments elevating "legality" to the status of Godsend code of laws. :|

Ones that look fun like "the problem with fps nowadays is that it's not half-life 2"

Fps are at there prime, depends on the title though...

My massive ego and my self-asserted belief in my superior interlect allows me to join any flame war I deem worthy of my time, as long as I'm convinced someone else is reading my comment.

It's really difficult to keep my composure when I see comments like 'she should be taken out of the gene pool'. The whole eugenics thing is doubly puzzling when it's spouted by internet-dwellers and gamers, seeing as we probably aren't the 'fittest' in terms of genetic makeup. Not that it matters, of course, because we're not animals. But still.

I try to stay out of arguments. But for some reason when people talk about how "casual" games and gamers are ruining gaming as a whole or how the game industry is losing creativity because of the massive amount of shooters there are, I can't help but try to put my two cents in on how I think they are wrong.

Religion is one I like debunking, I've taken a undefeatable arguement from Richard Dawkins that none can counter.

I always enjoying slamming samurai fanboys and pointing out how almost every western army in the pre-gunpowder age would be more than a match for those isolated island people.

Anything involving weapons and history are my playgrounds. I slaughter fools with unmerciful logic and fact. I use real facts, not what I see in various media.

Better than rick rolled I suppose.

Ill always defend anime.
Simular to you, but I wouldn't defend it all, just one series.

Elfen Lied

The reasons for that being, are described in a recent thread I was in.

This is a quote from one of my posts.

Speaking as a fan, Elfen Lied is very flawed. I'm not talking small flaws here, I'm talking huge great big mother flaws, terrible dubbing, over excessive gore and nudity, and two dimensional characters. With all these flaws however, it's all the more surprising is the fact that it's so compelling. It pushes the boundaries of good taste, and becomes something truly unique, and inspiring.

Obviously there were moments in the series of pure generic anime childishness, but in certain places like the beginning of episode four I believe, when it flashbacks to mayu's past, and her sexual molestations in the hands of her step father, and her running away because of it. Now, I hate to sound cliché, but I really felt for her character, and what she went through, because going through something like that must be complete and utter hell. The worst thing about it though, is some people have to deal with that everyday and it is in no way a rare case at all. I was seriously upset by it, and because of my nervous disposition when it comes to that sort of thing, I nearly had to stop it right there. It's that emotional feeling and attachment that I felt is something that I've never truly experienced in any form of media, anime or not. It was hard to stomach in the end, and I completely understand why people would be put off seeing that kind of stuff, but I went through it, and I'll say this now, Elfen Lied changed my life.

Now I can't say that for a lot of things.

Overrated it could be, and by Jo I definitely understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but Elfen Lied is very personal to me, and I'll stand by it, and defend my opinion of it if needs be.

The police/law, but that's probably because that's my family's background (ton of police officers...ect) and my future career. I will defend them (pending they are in the right of course) if the need arises. I'm just sick of the negative media and vibe they constantly get. It's ridiculous.

Mostly the misogynist ones. I can ignore most things, but I hate it when guys think women are only there for them. Not all women dress up for guys or go to a bar/club to hook up with a guy. Also the "nice guy" whining about not getting a girl and it's all her fault.

Snap on the religion one, I'm just curios to your unbeatable dawkins one that you have, what is it?

Also I'm not sure who it was but there was a pretty big battle on a fav weapon thread about katanas and whatnot, any chance you were a participant? :L
