Flamewars

Whenever someone makes a thread about anything to do with consoles compared with PCs, or one console compared with another, you can be sure that within the first few posts there will be at least one poster warning that a flamewar will ensue.

I've never seen one on this site.

Is it because the people on the forums here are just more mature or civilised than your average forum-goer, or is it that people feel intimidated by these sorts of warning posts and so don't post their true console rivalries here?

Even so, is the rest of the internet really bad enough that people are constantly wary of possible flamebait here?

If you see any, please link them.

(If you're in a fun mood, replace every instance of the word 'console' in the above post with 'ninja' or 'pirate' and imagine that it has the same effect)

There's fewer flamewars here than you might find on, say, the Gamespot boards, but they crop up from time to time. The difference is that the Escapist has very active mods. They're almost ninja-like, in their ability to speed in and lock a flamebait thread before it gets out of hand.

We don't have really bad flamewars, but certain topics tend to be unpleasant (like religion, as Mr. Kraken mentioned above).

indeed there are flamewars. the most recent ones im my memory are the prototype vs infamous ones from a few months back, which seem kinda laughable now. people were arguing over which was better well before the came out, just on the strength of what developres fed them....

Also, there are plenty of flamewars, they're just hidden under people trying to look mature when what they're saying could be easily summed up with

'OMG F4G PS3/WII/360/PC R W4Y B3TT3R TH4N PS3/WII/360/PC!2!1!1!1!!!one!1!!1!1eleven!1!!'

Also, if I were to start a flame war, I'd back up the fucking Vectrex. That's a hardcore console right there.

wasnt it actually lingerie? anyway, its not like anybody cares anymoer... those two games were such of a "flavour of the month" thing, that it took me a good half minute to remember what they were called.
