I would never spend money on an iPad, yet I have one. I won it in some game thing.
Anyways, I'm not a Apple person in the sense that I don't care if it has a fruit on it, if I like the product, I buy it, not because of the brand.
But I have learned to live with this product fairly well and I might even say it's working out pretty well! But... It does not have Flash. I have a Nexus One phone, it has Flash because it's an Android product, open source and all.
I was going to play some internet game and for a moment forgot my device's developer fell on his head a few times to many and discovered the "Click here to install flash" button. Clic... touched it and got this little message: "Thank you for your interest in Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately Apple does not allaw Flash Player to be installed on iPhone or iPad" Notice the "...Apple oes not allow"? Yes, it does not allow you to install a program to your own device. DOES NOT ALLOW! VORBOTEN!
Look, I know Apple has had some issues with Flash but this is 2012 where Flash is extremely popular, so popular that it is one of THE reasons I would not buy an iPad.
This is the cornerstone of my "hate" for Apple, I like most of their products, but the company aspect just looks so much like the evil-sci-fi of the 70's. People seem to be eitherwith or against it and those that are with it seem sometimes like a cult, efending all notions with bliss belief in the glory of the fruit company.
Now the rant is over, my question is: Are people generally OK with a company controlling the products even after you buy them?

And Apple is so popular Youtube adapted to them rather than leaving the poor schmucks who bought iWhatevers to suffer.

From what I've heard Apple considers Flash too much of a system hog, claiming it would dramatically reduce battery life.

But anyway, no, I do not like a company controlling products after I buy them. If I buy a dvd or cd, I'm damn well going to rip it if I want to. If I buy a computer, I'll put whatever damn software I want on it.

Its one of the reasons noone in the know buys apple stuff. They make so much money off the back of forcing people to use their products and systems that it detriments to the consumers.

It wouldn't be so galling but at best they are usually double the price of the next highest alternative which often functions at least as well if not better. This can be seen from the fact that until relatively recently you could not get Microsoft Office in any format on a mac. Apparently though they finally decided they would never win that one, caved and bought a development licence.

Wasnt Apple supposed to develop something to counter Flash and rival it, I guess putting it out of businesss or something?

OT I dont buy apple prodcuts just cause of the restrictions. and really cause I dont agree with iTunes and how it was allowed to be a monopoly.

EDIT:

Shrug I have an iphone mainly as it was the only option for a smart phone contract at the time and just kept getting free upgrades.

But I don't quite get the cult of apple I don't like macs ever since we had to use them in school for computing studies and that was pretty awful.

And that came from the company that made iTunes? Amazing...

Flash is supposedly on it's way out. Sure, there are still entire websites devoted to flash games, but HTML 5 is the new thing now. Adobe is discontinuing it's mobile flash development for Android (which is why I got the Galaxy Nexus).

If you google Youtube html 5, they actually have a beta version that runs all the videos on the site in HTML 5 mode or something, I'm not entirely sure how it affects things, but when I tried it videos seemed to load faster (may have just been my imagination).

Have you ever tried itunes on a mac? It's incredibly fast to open, the windows version is just a crappy port.

OP, did you read the reasons why Flash isn't in the IOS?

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/

I can't play PSP UMD's in my iPhone either, and you know? I'm okay with that.

Was reading earlier about the onlive app, for windows 7 on ipad, don't know if you could use that for flash, would be good if they sorted flash out though.

I have to agree, this isn't a massive issue now that HTML5 is gradually edging out Flash. I find it amusing how people love to wail on Apple for not supporting Flash, when Flash itself was reviled for being poorly put-together.

They don't put Flash on it because of bad blood and they don't intend to shell out tons of licensing money to someone they no like.

That is why there is something called jailbreaking, let's you use the device without the presence of our fruity overlord.

Honestly, I really like my iPad.

I did not buy it myself though, I got it from my father in law when he got himself an iPad 2.
I'm pretty pleased with it though.

I browse a lot on the couch, which is an improvement over sitting at my desktop.
And I can use when I'm on the toilet, which has reduced the amount of magazines in there by quite a lot.

All in all it is easy to use, works perfectly and looks pretty nice too.
I do miss flash, but I can live without it.

You know, that was an really interesting read.
Sort of opened my eyes to the whole "NO FLASH" policy Apple is running.

Interesting indeed.

I didn't think the post was about sex, I just thought it referred to breas... nevermind...

OT: The only apples I like are the ones your eat and the one you listen to (ipod nano). I don't have any other apple products because I didn't really care about appearing trendy and I'm fine using a pc.

The problem with Flash is that it's one of the most common routes through which malware can compromise the system.

The big three are internet explorer, adobe acrobat, and adobe flash. These softwares are targeted because they have huge install bases.

Apple claims they don't allow flash because of the security issue. That's only part of the truth, the other side of it is they want to break adobe's monopoly, which they've succeeded at doing.
