I don't see the point in this thread.
You get flashed/stunned and there is chance you will die.
You get a grenade, your dead. It takes as much skill to throw a grenade as a flash bang and grenades will kill you. So why not complain about them.
You get shot, your dead.
You get knifed by a player a good 2 meters away, your dead.

Flash bangs really arn't a problem.
The reason flash bangs are more of a problem than frag grenades is that a frag grenade missing won't get you killed. You can move out of the range of it's blast if you're quick enough, and you will survive, because you did something right. You can't outrun a blast of blinding light, so unless you're lucky enough to not be facing it, it doesn't really matter much what you do.
The basic way to tell if an element is unfair in competitive play is that if you can reasonably say "If I had just been a little bit better, I could have survived." If you can't say that about it, like, say, getting sniped from across the map, then there's something wrong with the game. You can out-skill a frag grenade if you're good enough. You can't outskill a white wall of blindness.
Neither can you out-skill a bullet to the face.
Shit happens, in such an un-balanced game why complain about "such a massive playing field leveler."
You cant out skill a sticky grenade on your chest.
Or a Noob tube shot.

The real-world application of a flashbang is to make sure that someone hiding in the room you're about to enter doesn't shoot you the second you enter the door. It's the IRL solution to camping; it's only natural that it'd be useful in online shooters for the same purpose.

I know I'm not alone when I say a huge part of my COD rage comes from flashbangs or stun grenades.

I realise that they're real miliatary hardware and they work really well, but i'm not sure they work in games, chiefly because of the fact that it's such a massive playing field leveler.

Example -----> You can be the best player in the world, but as soon as you've been blinded, or stunned facing the other direction, all you can do is lie down and pray that the guy who threw it doesn't notice you. Or, if you are facing where he is coming from, open fire like a madman and hope to get away with it. At this point, all skill is taken out of the equation and we enter the domain of luck.

And it's not like they can really be avoided: I might not mind as much if you had the ability to turn away to avoid the flash, but in COD even looking away from a flashbang blinds you. Which just makes for a doubly annoying death if you actually managed to spin around, only to be blinded anyway.

Anybody who has a converse opinion or feels the same please drop a comment :)

EDIT: It's probably worth pointling out, having read some of these comments, I AM NOT A CAMPER, and so calling me out on that as my reason for hating flashbangs is irrelevant.
Em you know in older CoD games we had to put up with all those effects when we were hit and not killed by normal grenades. Try that for annoyinf.

Actually if your facing the other direction you wont be blinded. I know this because I often flashbang my friends while playing online with them, so I toss it turn around and it blinds them and not me.

I think its perfectly fair to have them in the game. Its not like you cant kill the person who threw it at you, although its alittle blury you can still see people coming in you just move slower.
It doesn't if you throw it, but next time you get flashbanged by an enemy try turning round and seeing how much good it does you. And, if you get hit by a direct flashbang and the screen goes completely white you are basically screwed.
Stuns blind you from any side, flashbangs if you are facing them.

Go prone and open fire. Usually works fine for your reactions are good enough. That or drop your own or a frag for vengeance.

Welcome to war. It's not always about skill: Luck HUGELY factors into the equation.
It's not war though, it's a GAME, and that exactly the point I'm making.
Call of Duty sucks.

The game is buggy, unbalanced, and filled with hate. Instead of complaining, go play a different game, because Activision is never going to fix it.
I think you're generalising the franchise based on one game. While I'd agree with what you say if it was in regards to MW2, the whole cod franchise? Cod2, and cod4?

Anyway, I dislike stuns, because slow-motion is basically impossible to counter a lot of the time, and because of the stun+frag combo, where people just use a stun to check if soemones there without wasting a frag, and the stun makes the frag inescapable a lot of the time.

Flash I don't mind really. In fact, I'd prefer if they got rid of stun, and just made flash throw as fast as stun does. It's not impossible to counter. If you're paying attention, you should have a reasonable idea of where it came from. If they got you with a flash from behind, without you seeing them coming, chances are you would die anyway.

Both are more annoying on certain maps though, the ones with fewer places that are unpredictable. Wet work for instance, because it's so linear, so unless you get behind them, then they've got a pretty good chance of guessing where you are, or flashing ahead to the places where people usually are, which it's hard to avoid going through. Same with crossfire, though to a lesser degree, and not as often.

I only play FFA.
So, stuns don't bother me at all and they get me out of a few sticky situations whenever I don't have a shotgun.

I disagree. I think they're one of the best parts and it does give you an advantage but to be fair, you only get 2 in the game. This means you don't just go chucking them willy nilly, you already know they're there. As the person having them chucked at you means you should either know they're there and be ready for the flashbang or whatever comes your way. It's a great way of giving advantage to those who have the element of surprise.

Any game element in competitive play that is under the control and use of a player and takes skill out of the equation, or, more specifically, one in which the person who is dead could have done nothing about it is a bad game element. Sniper rifles, backstabs, land mines, claymores, stunning, ect.[/thread]
Sniper Rifles are easy to counter. Move in and out of cover. If they still get you it's because they're a good shot. Backstabs means they've managed to sneak up behind you without you hearing their footsteps so you aren't fully aware of your surroundings. Land mines... aren't in the game are they? I've never seen them. Claymores can be destroyed if you shoot them, they're to make sure you look where you are going. Stunning, see above.

What's more I don't see how anyone can complain about things in the game that anyone is also free to use. If anything complain about the leveled unlock system which means not all players have access to these at the outset meaning people who get the game late on are up against it even if they know what they're doing. Or a far more reasonable reason for anger is the LACK OF DEDICATED SERVERS!!! ARRGGGHHH!!!! RAAAAGE!!!!!!

This is the exact way I use them in CoD, and the reason why I like them. What would you prefer, just running into a room where one or several enemies are waiting? I'll gladly take away that tactical advantage whenever I can.

They are lifesavers as well as headaches. It is irritating to get hit with a flashbang while still blinded over and over again. A simple Perk could have made it less frustrating. Like Tactical Shades grants immunity to the effects of them or something.

Huh, it's more often that I kill the person who flash-banged* me than they kill me. Possibly because I tend to hit prone and start shooting in their direction...

*This is a hard phrase to abbreviate, because saying someone flashed or banged you can be taken the wrong way...

I hate getting stunnned... hate it... stupid - slow - movement...

But I can see why they're in the game. It does make a great tool for getting rid of campers, chuck a stun and if you get a hitmarker chuck a semtex.

Sniper are the worst thing in that game.

I've had so many games lost because I'm the only person on my squad going for the fucking objective, everyone else thinks they're still playing MW2.

i tend to think they are effective and underused. alot of people forget they are equiped. id use them when entering a building to blind corner campers and their claymores

Just as well Black Ops has got a perk that makes them less effective eh? Some people say it makes you completely immune to them.

I actually think Stuns and Flashs are really cool and be used tactically in a number of ways.

Ahem. Proper marksmanship. Stealth. And making the bullet hit of course requires some serious skill. Of course, we are just hiding and pissing the general population off.

Battlefield Bad Company knows what sniping is all about. Glorified headshots.
I did not say that sniping doesn't require skill. I said that there is not much you can do when a bullet is travelling towards your pretty face. Just like with flashbangs. Using them requires skill but surviving at the receiving end requires luck. So whining about their luck-based nature is a bit silly if you ask me.

My special grenades have the habit of hitting the smallest pixel on a wall and bouncing back into my face.

I will not be a hypocrite and say Ive never raged because of being flashed or stunned but I have to say one thing. They add a level of tension to my game experience, sticking close to cover and walls hoping that I can duck behind at the sight of a flash or stun being thrown in so that I can retaliate unexpectedly to the dumbass who thinks he should just rush straight through the door after he throws one.

But I will give you one thing, stuns are bullshit in the game, they should fix it so that your character just stumbles on his feet maybe falling to his knees when stunned INSTEAD OF MOVING IN GOD DAMN SLOW MOTION. Thats what I hate about them, completely unrealistic portrayal in the game. Making it harder to aim would be a good step aswell but take out the slow motion completely.

In Metal Gear Online, you can box to avoid the effects of a stun nade. I love MGO because every tactic can be countered.
