Have recently grown a bit tired of Lock On, I was wondering, do you people know of any good combat flight simulators?

Keep in mind that I'm talking about real flight simulators here, not the pseudo arcade-shooters like Ace Combat and the likes.

Cheers

Hmm, I can't quite remember the name of it (sorry mate), but I was at GameStop the other day, and I was looking at the PC section, and saw this nice looking flight simulator (it wasn't Flight Simulator X).

All I remember about it, is that it was made in 07-08, and it required some fairly high specs.
If you are curious about it, I suggest asking GameStop because surely they would know the title.

IL2 Sturmovik and it's Forgotten Battles expansion were quite good.

Falcon 4.0, basically the quintesential(sp?) PC flight sim was re-released recently with a huge amount of official add-ons and mods in one package. I think they called it Allied Force.

Jane's US Navy Fighters was pretty fun back in the day.

A little known one called MiG Alley from around 2001 was a lot of fun, too. You can't beat gunfights in jets.

easy, World War 2 online, you get a flight simlator, tank simulator, FPS and navel simulator all in one! and you get to learn real dog fighting tatics as you play against real people!

Combat flight simulator 2 and 3. They are world war two flight sims made by microsoft game studios but they are fun. Two covers the pacific theater while three covers europe. The games are fairly old now but don't look to bad.

Had some pretty crazy dog fights in that game when theres over 50 aircraft on the screen.

Falcon 4.0 Allied Force is a little dated, but it's a good one (If you can judge a hardcore sim by the thickness of its manual, then F4 is the king, with over 700 pages worth of F-16 goodness). Though I should warn you, after experiencing the dynamic campaign, it kinda ruined Lock On, and every other sim for me forever :)

Actually, there's a mod called for vanilla Falcon 4.0 (It works with Allied Force, but it's not supported) called Red Viper in development that adds all kinds of improved AI, realism, particle effects, and pretty textures to bring it up to date with more modern sims. And it lets you use JDAMs and IFF. It also *KINDA* unlocks planes other than the F-16, but since the game is programmed for the F-16, flying them feels little more than a cockpit swap.

Janes F/A-18 Simulator. Demanding but also very detailed. The clickable 3D Cockpit is the hands down the best that was ever made. Look up the TSH (Team Super Hornet) hompage for extensive mods.

Falon 4.0 with expansions is also very good.

The find some good players to play Co-op or team matches against eachother with.

The forums of http://www.simhq.com can give you more info on how to get good flight sims.
