Mumford And Sons (my favourite artists of all time, ever).
I went to some night some guys organised in Southampton last year for some guy's birthday, and Mumford were there. They
completely blew me away. Sadly they haven't been able to properly record anything to match it. Isn't Marcus busy being Laura Marling's [http://www.myspace.com/lauramarling] drummer or something?
Hmmm. It seems that this thread was made for me. Listen, crouton, if you love Mumford and Sons, please tell me that you've checked out Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit [http://www.myspace.com/johnnyflynn]. Johnny is one handsome troubadour, and I think that you'd really like the band. I saw them (and Laura Marling) at this fantastic festival in London last weekend, in some big ole church.

my favorite Indie folk band is Peggy sue
Yeah, they were there too, met them and they seemed cool.
Other bands that indie-folkers might want to check out, Okkervil River [http://www.myspace.com/okkervilriver], Bon Iver [http://www.myspace.com/boniver], Fleet Foxes [http://www.myspace.com/fleetfoxes], and the band that have recently become the cool alternative band to love, Noah and the Whale [http://www.myspace.com/noahandthewhale]. At the rockier sort of indie folk-rock end, might I throw in Josh Ritter [http://www.myspace.com/joshritter] and my
All Time number one favourite band, The Weakerthans [http://www.myspace.com/theweakerthans]. Fans of poetic lyrics please be sure to check out a record called 'Reconstruction Site'. And Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit [http://www.myspace.com/johnnyflynn], of course
For sort of weirder 'anti-folk' if you like, please give Jeffrey Lewis [http://www.myspace.com/jefflewis] all due attention. Particularly The East River, Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror and the Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song.
For more traditional singer-songwriter type business, the artist I have seen live more than any other (that isn't my buddy Tawny Owl [http://www.myspace.com/tawnyowlband]) is probably Frank Turner [http://www.myspace.com/frankturner]. Poppy, punky folk. As mentioned, Laura Marling [http://www.myspace.com/lauramarling] kicks most people's folk arses up and down and all around, despite being younger than me (how depressing).
For older, more traditional bluesy folk ala Leadbelly, I think Lukeje liked him, please please listen to Townes Van Zandt, a song called Brand New Companion.
If I think of any more, I'll add them.
Viva folk!

I'm not sure if it counts as folk but I've always really loved Nick Drake.
Nick Drake, yeah!
"Oh baby won't you please come quick, this ole cocaine's making me sick, cocaine all around my brain".
I think I most like Townes Van Zandt's arrangement of that song, or possibly John Martyn's.
