Food Fights

[Belated]

They happened in your favorite cartoons all the time. Something edible would land on somebody's face or on the wall, and then suddenly a character stands up and yells "FOOOOD FIIIIGHT!" Then everybody starts throwing their food every which way at everybody else. In all different varieties, fruits, sammiches, gooey noodly stuff, all flying overhead. And then the principal walks in and either breaks it up or gets clobbered with food himself to the point where he can't see or speak.

But what I want to know is, where did this idea come from? Usually tropes are unrealistic, but they always at least derive from something truthful. But I've never once seen a food fight happen in my life. Maybe my schools were all just really tame?

What about you? Have you ever seen or been in a food fight? Do you know somebody who has?

I've only been in one food fight in my life. Grade 3 in a Catholic School I attended for little over a month. I didn't participate; I wanted to eat my food, not chuck it. It was very quickly stopped by the adults.

I've never been in one, and would never get involved in one. Food tends to be far too tasty to be wasted as a projectile.

I remember a friend of mine tried to start one in my 8th grade, he only got as far as throwing a cup filled with ketchup and yelling food fight. The problem is said cup hit the assistant Principle square on the chest and he was promptly taken to detention, so that pretty much ended any sort of food fight.

I was in one. Not one of these ridiculous school dining room ordeals, we needed to clean our flat before we all moved out and decided it wouldn't be any worse if we just had a food fight in the kitchen. Fun times.

someone pushed cake in my face once at schooh so I turn around and did it back, anyway it turned into a real fight in seconds. good fun was school, I really miss it

The closest I've ever been in was when I threw a plate of spaghetti at someone saying particularly nasty things to a friend of mine...

...their table threw stuff back, so we had a war of the tables...great fun!

My old schools diner a few years back. A couple of dudes figgured they'd play cool and started throwing bread and other stuff at people. Didnt go as planed though - people just ran out of the cafeteria and the guys who started got suspended. Cant remember for how long though...
