All I'm wondering is how that game would've worked.
I mean, if it's batman trying to catch jack the ripper I can't imagine there would be too many fist fights or anything. The only way I could see this would be as an adventure game and that doesn't sound particularly fun. But that cape WAS boss. So maybe that would've made up for it.
Well, he could fight all the small-time criminals and crooks, and have the Ripper-mystery be the driving force behind the plot, solving somewhat unrelated cases to get closer to the truth.

I think it would have had potential to work well with Batman, without making the Ripper a superpowered mutant alien force that feeds on fear or something as ridiculous as that.
Most of Batman's villains are pretty normal people anyway, and it would have been nice to see him play a detective that he is.

Although, I'm sure there already exists a comic where Batman meets Jack the Ripper...

EDIT: I was right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_by_Gaslight
And I wouldn't be surprised if there was more. Both Batman and Jack the Ripper are things that apparently have had a crossover with everything.

Hah. If THQ wasn't too busy publishing flashy things that get old really fast, we'd have more things like Vicotrian era Batman hunting Jack the Ripper.

DAT CAPE.
Why can't I play this game? A steampunk Batman vs Jack the Ripper? Why wasn't that picked up?
Apparently it wasn't the 'safest' Batman game to make in terms of sales. Sad really.

Daily reminder that they made a Batman FPS, and Victorian Batman was scrapped.

Let the waves of sorrow and things that could have been wash over you.

That cape. I would have bought it just for that cape.

Maybe THQ wouldn't be in such financial trouble if it had focused on making good games like this instead of crap like UDraw
And crap like Homefront.

I hope you're reading WB and Rocksteady - this is what people want.

This would be an awesome new direction to go in for the Dark Knight. At least give us that cape as dlc for Arkham City...

Especially since it looks like they're hellbent on making Homefront a franchise.

Oh my, o///o. That beautiful cape.

I'd play this game, I'd play it all night long. Please please Rocksteady, pick this up and make it a reality! D:

they made a batman racing game :p
thats far less relevant ^^
They let Batman and Robin and Batman Forever happen. I know that they weren't games, but they were pretty awful (even though I secretly love them. What? Did I say that?)

I was thinking the same thing. It looked to be that his cape was so badass that that it had its own cape.

Though what I want to know, what was up with that other guy at 25 seconds that was also dressed the same as Batman.

I wonder if there was some kind of multiplayer with multiple "Batmen".

I'd like Rocksteady to pick this up and make it their next Batman game.

Because I'm hoping they don't make a third and...

... get tempted to resurrect the Joker, or anyone else who died in it.

Unless they have a truly banging idea for the next Arkham game already.

Why can't we have anything nice? T~T
I would of bought this game no questions asked. It would of defiantly been popular if published. With a cape like that, how could it not!?

Footage From Canceled Steampunk Batman Game Surfaces

Here's some footage from F.3.A.R developer, Day 1 Studios', canceled Gotham by Gaslight game.

Remember those menu designs from that canceled steampunk Batman game we showed you last month? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115238-A-Heartbreaking-Glimpse-of-a-Steampunk-Batman-Game] Well the noble scholars over at Siliconera have managed to dig up a video of the game in motion, and it is beautiful. It was beautiful.

Okay, so Batman doesn't do anything particularly Batman-esque in the video. He just walks around, stopping occasionally to brood a little. Regardless, I could watch that physics-driven cape for hours.

This footage is part of a pitch for Gotham by Gaslight, which would have appeared on PS3 and Xbox 360 between 2009 and 2010 had a publishered picked it up. In the game, a hefty-looking Batman would have attempted to track down Jack the ripper in a 19th century interpretation of Gotham. Day 1 Studios' pitched the game to THQ, who didn't bite. Unable to find a publisher to fund the game, Day 1 eventually canceled the project.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we can't have nice things.

In this medium, 95% of all game ideas do not get made. Most don't make it past the concept art stage or something similar to that.
