If a game is available for both PC and a console (your choice which one), are you more likely to buy it for PC or for the console system? Why?

I don't own any consoles, so I think my answer should be obvious, but I'm curious what the other Escapists here think.

PC. I will take the comfort of a keyboard & mouse kept midrif high by a table over holding an uncomfortable gamepad or waving a stick any day. Game pads always game me finger cramps, especially the ones that had hard plastic buttons instead of soft rubber ones.

On a PC, I can stop mid-game, hit alt-esc or start, & surf the net for a walkthrough for a few minutes & then get back to the game. I understand consoles can get internet now? But I haven;t played one one since the late 90s.

I also don't need to get a new rig every few years; just upgrade the graphics card for about $100 & you're set for like the next 6 years.

It depends on a few factors:

Do a majority of my friends play the game? If so, what system?
Almost invariably this ends up being console.

Does it have a lot of mods or exclusive content for one system?
I have never bought a bethesda game on console, primarily because of the huge # of mods for their games that you just can't get on console.

Price?
Is it cheaper by far on one system or another

Completely dependent on the game for me. Mass Effect and any RTS, PC for sure. Assassin's Creed, console.

I try and buy PC, the games are cheaper, multiplayer and controls are usually better. Plus most of my friends are on PC.

i suppose console for me because more of my friends play on the console and also im too used to the controllers it might end up being a bit fidgety to move straight to a keyboard and mouse

Depends really on which platform I would rather play the game on.

I have the tedency to play RPGs more on consoles then I do on PC, same with shooters, I even out which games I get for PC and PS3.

PC. I follow my three C's; Customization, Community and Controllers.

You can mod pc games unlike console games. The community is usually better and a keyboard & mouse will always be the superior method of control (Except with racing games).

Usually console, then i don't have to download updates on my PC... updates tend to kill my computers >.<

I spent a fair chunk on my PC so i'm damn well going to get some use out of it.

And some games just work better on certain platforms, I prefer Mass Effect 2 on PC as it's easier to mess with save files to get squadmates I like earlier.

Steam has achievements, many flash sites have achievements, and if you want a controller get a Game-pad with choices of PS2 style, 360 style, Arcade style, NES style and so on.

Your argument is invalid.

Console, I own a laptop that definitely wasn't made for gaming, it has a decent graphics card but it's not good enough to handle almost any of the newer games. Even if I had a good gaming comp, I would probably still take the console, I don't do much online play and I like he feel of the controller in my hands instead of a mouse.

really depends for me personally

if its an rpg with lots of moddability, probably for pc

if its a good game that deserves one playthrough however, i'll probably just get it for console, as im a person who generally hates holding onto games, so ill sell it back after i beat the piss out of it.

i do use the controller on just about any pc game i can though, the keyboard and mouse is extremely uncomfortable for me to use but i do use it for the games that i need to

i do buy probably about..70% of my games for pc (partially thanks to steams deals of course)

but i have a 360 and ps3 so i get exclusives and shooters for console generally.

Depends; on more high-end games, I'll go with the console, as I know it'll work. But on games with either less graphics reqs or more modding capabilities, I'll go with the PC.

Achievements on the 360 go on my gamercard and contribute to my gamerscore. Many games aren't compatible with gamepads and when I'm playing a PC game, I want to play with a mouse and keyboard.
