Hi guys,
I have a project to do for college where I've to build a DB for a hotel management system and create a website for people to reserve rooms. Basically,
We've been given the option of:
- using PHP or ASP
- using MySQL or SQLServer

I was wondering if any of ye had advice as to which ones to use

I'd be inclined to go for PHP and MySQL, largely because they're both open source and used on a huge number of websites, so software and tool downloads are free and advice is readily available.

Conversely, you can get student versions of developer tools for ASP and SQL Server for little or no cost, and they'll come with a variety of wizards to guide you through some tasks, but it's all very much closed-source Microsoft stuff, which I'd avoid if you're just starting out. You can always pick it up later if you need to.

(Actually, I'd really like to go with Python and Django in front of MySQL, but I'm kind of on a Python kick lately and Django's more of a niche product than PHP.)

Ok cheers for the advice. Ye I love python too, we've done python and vb and java in our course but we're told we have to use php or asp even though we've never had and never will have any lectures on them! Oh well

Well I only have experience with PHP and MySQL but from what your describing yeah, both of those would benefit what your trying to accomplish.
