So how about a thread NOT designed to make us feel worse about our day. Rather than type long, unending paragraphs detailing why we hate life, lets make a thread of hope. A thread of "For Now" for things that are bad, and are now, but will not be forever.

I'll start.

an economic depression, for now.
very few jobs out there, for now.
a congress dedicated to keeping a remotely intelligent president from doing anything that(Almighty Lord in heaven forbid)would benefit the poor but not the rich, for now.

Every person, every animal, every thing we have ever known, for now.

Who's to say what will happen after now? Perhaps one day, after the sun has long since cooled and become a lump of cool entropic matter we(our solar system) will be swallowed by a black hole, or a passing galaxy, maybe even be pulled into a young giant star. Eventually, if the universe becomes entropic, the matter that makes up our bodies will have made quite the trip, and it may be the only matter in the universe that in the end can safely say it came together to form something special: a chemical system, a system that eventually, through random mutation, selection, LGT and random chaotic events, created intelligence and sentience.

We have been unwittingly made by the forces of chaos and randomness the keepers of what may be the only biome of this scale in the entire universe. Its fate, and by connection ours, is in the shaping hands of the human species. It is up to us whether we destroy it and ourselves over our differences and over greed. If we can only learn to care for each other and for every other species we live with, our biome's confinement to Earth will be a "for now," and we will one day be able to spread this amazing chance event called life to the corners of the galaxy.

For now, we are stuck on this "mote of dust suspended in a sun beam"(monster cookies for reference), but, maybe, just maybe, in the future we will have survived long enough, and learned enough, that we will escape the fate of our solar system, and will colonize the stars. Who knows what our children will discover and see.

For now, we can only dream of a greater tomorrow, but that should not stop us from trying to make it a reality.
