What the hell are the meant to be?
Mello, L, and Light from Death Note respectively.

Or actually since those costumes are so terrible, I give them no respect whatsoever.

Cosplay is fun to do. That it and it's that simple. If you like cosplay then just do it. I cosplay alot, hell I'm consistently working on cosplays. I like dressing up and I don't mind if people think I'm dorkier for doing so. I don't get to much scorn, mostly because I'm always in some way half naked, but there have been people who have made me upset and not want to cosplay.

To me Cosplay is an art. It takes time and dedication to make cosplay. I don't understand the negativity towards it. Cosplayer aren't hurting you, they are taking their love for a game/anime/movie/ any type of media and showing their appreciation. It's like saying you hate fan artists, even the sucky ones are a show of appreciation.

I do actually like cosplay when it's done right, but when it isn't done right it sucks massive ass.

And my friends never do it right...

And then they ask me if they look good...

And I enjoy destroying their confidence.

My grip is that most of the time the outfits look very strange. Fictional characters wear outfits that look good in a world where your belief is suspended but in real life that look... fake. Like a the plastic of a barbie doll. The outfits don't seem real, they feel divorced from a real look and artificial. I can't really explain it but cosplay wireds me out because In my mind game and anime clothes should never be the real world... they just don't look good.

I met an awesome Lighning cosplayer once. She was at Gamestation the morning of Final Fantasy XIII's release just for fun. Her own hand-made costume, and even dyed her real hair pink. She smiled at me. I smiled back. (sigh)...Lightning!! Come back!! I didn't catch your...e-mail? What do they have in Pulse anyway?

As long as the pretty girls keep doing cosplay I'll have no problem with it.
Yes I am that shallow.

This is my general impression of cosplay.
It irritates my ears!

Maybe this is just me, but it ruins my feelings towards a game when I see some guy dressed up as some character because I don't want my game to manifest into real life.

I keep having to rewrite this so the mods don't lose their eyebrows....but basically, I hate things that weaken people's psychological state and highway robbery. If you actually care to know what I'm talking about, read below.

The problem I have with cosplay is that people I know who cosplay do it as a means to cope with their personal inadequacies. While everyone needs psychological outlets for their insecurity, I find it unhealthy and slightly sickening that people will pretend to be something in order to escape from their own lives, rather than actually improve themselves and develop like a normal person.

Furthermore, I've seen the prices on "authentic outfits" for cosplay characters. Maybe growing up with not that much money has made me a bit too practical, but doesn't $200 U.S. sound like a bit much for a yellow blazer, a pair of pants, and a black notebook? "Oh look at me I'm Kira! I'm going to write down your name in this $80 authentic Death Note and kill you!" No, what you should do is take that 99 cent store notebook and beat the guy who sold it to you to death with it, because that was highway robbery.
