For those wondering why My Little Pony is so popular...

What is the appeal of the show? Is it a comedy? What exactly makes it watchable?

The best way I can describe the show to others and gush at the same time is:

Take Sienfeld or Azumanga Daioh, make everyone ponies, and crank the silliness factor past eleven and all the way to thirty.

They are realistically flawed characters, NOT one note marketing devices.

The ponies themselves snark at anything overly girly or distractingly whimsical. The show is aware that parents will be watching so the snark makes it a billion times more tolerable and extremely funny at the same time.

No female main character falls into a typical girl show stereotype and are on their way to become new archetypes themselves.

Musical numbers are used sparingly and are either used for comedic or dramatic effect, not to fill a "girly show cliche" quota.

The morals are taken from the episodes after they are written and not written to showcase the "lesson of the week."

A few hiccups aside, the animation is gorgeous.

I know, I know, another one of these threads -- and this one is being started by a brony, instead of someone who has apparently been avoiding the internet for the past year. I'm just letting you guys know that Know Your Meme has done a video explaining the whole thing, all the way down to the article that got /co/ interested in the show in the first place.

I love how the video's creators claim that My Little Pony had a target demo of young women, and how they refer to an honest critical article as "sensationalism." Let's keep watching and see if they give us anything to debunk the articles claims, or if they just say "it's awesome and the animation is the best!" as bronies always do...

Has this guy been to 4Chan? The only time I ever went, the first thing I saw was some very cute, childish imagery...of kiddie porn. Haven't been back. And people are offended when others insinuate that some bronies may be pedos. The trend originated at a pedo hangout. I spoke with a friend who still goes on 4Chan, and he acknowledged the pedos: "Just don't get on after midnight."

Then don't tell people with much more experience of the website than you what it's like. Imagine if someone came on to the Escapist for the first time, saw this thread, and went around declaring to everyone who would listen that it's a giant flame-filled hatefest populated solely by trolls. That's basically what you're doing right now.

No, that would be /b/ (and it really isn't nearly as common as you think). /co/ is a SFW board. Again, while there's nothing wrong with dissing 4chan, at least learn something about the site first.

It's an awesome show, and it contains many references that a small child won't understand *at all.* It alludes to very old cartoons and movies, too.

The moral of each episode isn't shoved in, and it's done realistically. The characters act like real humans with real flaws, like jealousy and anger and dishonesty, and learn from their mistakes in a believable fashion.

It's the type of fun that people of any age can enjoy, little kids because it's bright and colorful, and older people because of the humor and grown-up references.

All I know is this; I will be watching tonight with my girlfriend, with tons of junkfood and alcohol! Our regular movienight with all of the episodes of the shows we watch in a row, and we will finish it off with My Little Pony, completly pissed and happy!

I like My Little Pony FiM ( I am not afraid to say it) because it is one of the best made kiddie shows out there as of today. ^^ It is the same reason why I still watch Animaniacs/Sonic/Freakazoid.

Edit: oh yes I just put MLP FiM in the same awesome category as Animaniacs! You wanna fight about it?
