When I was playing games online, my parents would always make me eat dinner when I'm in the middle of a match. I never went full afk because I could kick ass between mouthfuls. :p
I got my first overkill and untouchable in Halo 3 online when I eating. Not actually during but before and after those moments in the same match. XD

Oh.

OK.

In World of Warcraft, if your AFK for too long, the game just logs you out.
Always pissed me off.
Well, it always weirds me out when someone just stands there, staring blankly.

Why don't you leave the match while you're AFK? Like, my roommate in university would go AFK for, like, twenty minutes at a time. I told him that he should just press whatever button takes him back to the map's lobby. Worst case scenario, you rejoin in five minutes. It's just better etiquette.

As for the parent issues, tell them you don't mind helping them, but when you're in the middle of a game it's rude to leave - and it's not fun for you. Remind them that they bought you the Xbox as a gift: they gave it to you, so it belongs to you. They can take away the TV, or the power, or the internet if they're paying for it, but the Xbox is yours. You might also want to remind them that you don't bother them when they're in the middle of a TV episode, phonecall, or book.

Ideally, you want to work out some kind of compromise that says, "I'm not some whiny punk kid, and you're my parents, but I want some respect myself."
A. It's a laptop
B. This is get down there in this miniscule amount of time or they'll yell at you, so I have no time to d/c.
C. I payed for most of my games in my entire library, and still want me to pay for those too. TV, I bought it, charging me for it.
D. I try not to bother them at all.

Respect your elders. Maybe your problem is that you are over emphasizing your need to play video games. You said you have poor eye sight. Could that possibly be because you are always in front of a monitor? Cutting back on games will give your eyes a better chance at recovery and healing, THEN you would be able to get a driving permit, THEN you could get a job that is distant from home, AND THEN you will have no time at all to play video games anyways. This is called the circle of growing up.

For me, a month before I turned 16 I got a job located half a mile away from home. I was a clerk at a gas station and it SUCKED. I worked four to five days a week, usually accumulating about 40-45 hours. At minimum wage I still was making more money than most high schoolers. You know what I did with that money? Bought shit. My own car, a high-speed super computer, video games. Anything I earned, I could keep for myself. Did I ever have time to use that stuff? Very little, but at least my parents could never take that away from me.

me.
I didn't get a PC until December and before that it was once a week for 2 hours on the computer. On the eyesight thing, I've noticed that my vision has veen deteriorating for awhile now since 2 years ago when my vision was spectacular. It could be that the 12 hours a day 5 days a week camp all outdoors for 2 weeks I've done for band the last two years had something to do with it, and my parents said they will stop paying this year.
On games, I didn't start playing them for several hours at a time until only a couple of months ago. And before you say anything, I was running between this and "chores". Now they want me to get off and do something else. So see ya everyone, it's been frustrating, mods for the love of God lock the topic. I could care less about this now.

Makes me realise how lucky I really am when it comes to my parents. Heck, my dad's a bit of a gamer himself and my mom just dosen't care that much.

Anyway, good luck with the whole situation.

About the stuff you bought: it makes no sense for them to charge you for it. I don't know why I thought you were playing on an Xbox - especially since you were saying you were away from keyboard. Politely tell them that they are out of their minds in that regard. Operative word, politely.

Anyway, check your keymap, because there is an exit to lobby button, where you can then click Observe Game. Also, have a word to your parents about the yelling, because that isn't pleasant.
