I've heard some Japanese metal that I thought was pretty cool., I can't name any one song though. :/

And "J-Rap" I think the term is (Japanese rap) sounds pretty cool... then again, I'm more than a little biased towards hip-hop culture in general.

there is loads better, but this the best i could find on short notice. also, japanese rock is totally awesome!next to the english and yanks, japan have the best music composers in the world.there are loads of examples, but i'll give ya just 2:

I hate that kind of japanese music.They are amazing people and composers and go out of their way to make shitty copies of western songs...As an example all rock artists seem to be copying David Bowie.Only they suck.Their more traditional things are exceptional.Like this:

oh no dude, i love that kinda music as well.like i said, the japanese are fantastic composers. but i think the japanese are at their best when they're trying to copy david bowie, because the japanese are the best at taking a good template and making it awesome.

plus, did you actually check out those songs? dude, those songs are so unique- the first is a rock song with some great use of synthesizers, and has one of the coolest guitar solo's i've ever heard. the second song is a heavy rock song with the best use of distorted guitar i've ever heard,and some really cool riffs. i really do recommend them dude.

I know what you mean.Thing is all musical templates in Europe and America derive from the same spot.Which is why no matter the instrument and if you exclude the voices music sounds similar...familiar is a better word.Asia is a whole nother matter.Their musical style and way of writing is very different.I still don't think it's a good idea of them singing in English and copying western artists.I think they should stick to their own styles.Maybe with some strategic use of English words.

PS:I heard them.Sounds like average stuff to be honest just through a Japanese filter.

oh, you meant ENGRISH! oh yeah dude, i completely agree with ya. i absolutely hat it when they use engrish. i've heard some epic songs ( hero's comeback, soul phrase, rolling star) be absolutely ruined by friggin' engrish!in that case, i agree with ya.

i mean, even completly epic songs like 'libera me from hell' are ruined by a japanese person trying to convert something that sounds cool in japanese into english- ok, gonna stop complainin'. and i know what ya mean about the brits and yanks deriving from the same spot.i've played some of my japanese stuff for my friends, and they told me they could tell it was japanese. know, if only we could get someone who knew how to utilise both at once...

Tokyo Jihen is by far my favorite band currently making music. Tokyo Jihen is a band put together by the great Shiina Ringo (her solo stuff is great but less rocking). Tokyo Jihen, is pretty much a traditional rock band with a quite a bit jazz influence with just great guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and vocals. Here's a quote from a Tokyo Jihen album review:

You [Tokyo Jihen] created new music unlike anything else in the industry, yet drawing elements from the entire scene. This is what every artist should aim to achieve.

Tokyo Jihen - Killer Tune. If you don't like this, then there's something wrong with you lol.

Thanks for listening. I actually made a thread about Shiina Ringo months back and no one replied. For about 3 years now since my friend introduced me to the band, I pretty much listen to her music on a daily basis. She and her band also do quite a few covers in english. She did a cover of The Beatles - Yer Blues that's actually better than the original IMO.
