I got this idea from the 'failed ideas' thread by 'Zeke109'. My idea being for people to give an example of ventures by man that disregarded knowledge possessed by man.

I'll get the ball rolling by giving an example of my own to give you a better understanding of what I'm writing about.

One or two years ago there was major flooding in parts of England. The worst hit people was those who lived on flood-planes. When the houses, schools, businesses etc. were built it was not unbeknown to the constructors and the organizations, both private and government, responsible for commissioning the work that these areas were and still are flood-planes yet construction carried on regardless.

We could argue the motives behind this example whatever they may be but the fact would remain that houses were built on flood-plains knowingly. So basically the example you give could be something that happened locally and recently to yourself or maybe it'll be a major event somewhere in the past that springs to mind, It could be a somewhat more abstract or profound example but the bigger and more catastrophic the better in my eyes.

People seem to have forgotten that the [a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boom_and_bust"]economy always grows and recedes[/a], it's like the sodding tides.

Unless bridges are maintained, they collapse.

The Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver was built in 1938, which means it's celebrating it's 70th year of operation. I wonder what will replace it when it's stability rating expires.

True, but i would have to disagree with JFK. He was a bad leader, but his assassination gave him hero status.
