A former Coldstream mayor and his wife have been indicted by a grand jury on multiple child sex crimes.

According to new court documents, Michelle and John Kevin Taylor were both arrested on Tuesday, April 15, amid new allegations that John Taylor had sexually abused a girl under the age of 12.

Employee Reported Child Pornography on John's Phone to His Wife but She Didn't Report it to the Police

According to the arrest warrant obtained by WAVE3, the allegations stem from an employee at John's business in Mount Washington. Police say the employee handed over John's work phone to his wife on March 11, reporting to John's wife that he had child porn images depicting a girl under 12 on his phone.

Putting aside the absolutely horrific crime... what kind of a complete imbecile do you have to be to keep that kind of thing readily viewable on your phone?!
Sure. But one of the things about crime is that a lot of criminals are stupid.

In some cases they might not be "stupid" per se, but are driven by powerful compulsions or impulsiveness that cause risk of exposure.

If you have child porn on your phone then why on earth would you let your co workers hold it and look at it?

Yeah, just fantastically terrible OPSEC all around. Hopefully he didn't have a job where he had to deal with a lot of private info or needed to care about his image... Entrepreneur and former Mayor you say? Well, hmm, maybe he's just dumb.

Side note: He's former mayor of a town that's similar enough to where I grew up that I find it amusing that he only held the office of Mayor for 16 years (2003-2019) - that's kind of a weak showing for an Appalachian small town Mayor in a town where he could feasibly know over half the voters on a first name basis. They tend to stick around as long as they want to, unless they really fuck it up. For a comparison where I grew up has had the same Mayor for a literal half century, most of the time he runs unopposed.
