Ok after I have just been quoted and corrected for my spelling i'm having a slight rant. To be fair, completely bad grammar and spelling in one sentence, capslock, leet/text speak, etc need to be pointed out. But as I have noticed, there are too many people on this forum that are quick to point out on or two spelling mistakes.

Point 1)Many of our members are under the age of 15 - many of whom which, are still at school, and are still learning to spell

Point 2) Many of us, do not want to spend time checking every little bit that we type, when tbh this forum is just fun, nothing serious.

Point 3)Two reasons for my bad spelling, and one which I take offensively if corrected on. The first being I type quicker than my brain thinks at times, secondly, I am actually slightly dyslexic - under review at the moment. When I spend all day making sure my spellings are correct for the pupils I teach, I do not particulalry want to spend time checking on spellings for quick posts.

EDIT Point 4)I actually suffer with a condition called hypermobility, which makes my body very flexible, but also means at times I am in a lot of pain (think arthritis). What this means is I can barely type as it is, without having to re-do spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

This is only my two cents, but there are many people on this board that are often far too quick to judge, and don't even consider the feelings or mental ability of many of our members. Guys, quit with the OMG you have made a spelling mistake, sometimes you just don't know who you are offending.

Your two cents guys?

It's "I'm", not "i'm".

Sorry, I really wanted to have a laugh, people have been Nazis to this stuff since The Escapist launched, why try to change it?

As long as people know the difference between loose and lose, I'm okay with it.

and as long as sentences don't look like this:

"and tehn ew wnet to teh stoer"

Please, please, please use the following:

Capitalization
Punctuation
please, try to keep the "OMG" "U", etc. to a minimum.

Your spelling and grammar is better than the last two people, but still.

Also, age is no excuse, really. Spelling and grammar are both important, and they're regarded as such here.
I don't point out poor spelling/grammar, if only because it's rude to do so and I'm lazy.
I understand the point you are making. However, I teach pupils of 16 and under, and trust me, their spelling needs alot to be desired - they are in fact still learning. I do make grammatical errors, some of which can be excused, some not. But when I'm pulled up for one measly spelling mistake in an entire paragraph, considering the facts I have spoken about, I feel completely insulted.

People on forums are lazy, so they always either A: try to cut time, or B: write the same thing in leet speak.

Sometimes, the most extreme case is 4chanism.

I agree, but that is a minority not THE majority.

why is capitalization so important? i fully agree that punctuation, or some method of sentence separation is necessary, however capitalization has always seemed arbitrary to me. as if some words are more important than others.

one day the lower case shall rise against the oppression of the Capitalist nazi letters!
and there shall be bread, land and freedom for all!

1- How are they going to learn if nobody corrects them when they are wrong? They should thank us.

2- Part of the fun (for me at least) involves the quality of the posts put up by most of the members. If the standard of the forum falls down to where horrific spelling is accepted, the site will no longer be as fun.

3- ...Well you did fine on this post. If you put the same effort into all of them, you'd hear less griping from the spelling police. I've seen errors even from the great NewClassic but wouldn't ever give him a hard time because you can tell that he pays attention to his posts. He's even...legendary for it. You and I are mere mortals, so we get to watch what we post.

There are instances where spelling is bad but tolerable, and then there are instances where spelling has been thrown out the window. Your browser comes with a spell checker (well, mine does), use it. I don't really mind bad spelling, its bad grammar that annoys me; the number of times I've come across a post where no full stops have been used is stupid.

I also find it hilarious when people judge and correct others posts even if their posts are riddled with poor spelling and grammar.

Typing fast, sure, I understand that, but do you hit the "post" button fast, too? I'm certainly not suggesting that people should really feel compelled to point out every last error in a post -- typos happen, people, learn to cope -- but it certainly wouldn't hurt to take a moment to reread your post before you actually submit it, either.

Exactly. I only do so when the user is being especially obnoxious, or when it gets too terrible to bear (as in, the dreaded speak of 1337, used every word).

...if you're 15 years old and you can spell the simplest of words, then you don't need to be here...

I think the lack of writing ability in 16yr olds is the fault of the educational curricculum more than anything. For some reason, other subjects get studied in more detail, but after students are taught how to spell and basic grammar usage, they are then left to it. But thats a different issue. I agree that people picking on careless trivial errors is irritating though. I only have a problem with consistently low standards of spelling and grammar, but I just ignore it (sadly the offender can never see my baleful gaze) .

Perhaps I should have phrased that better, I am in fact a teacher, but you would be surprised how many children under 15 can not spell certain words Many can't be bohered to learn, however, there are also as many that have a small/severe learning disorder, this brings some of my point to light, how many of you know everyone on this forum does not fall into the latter. It is in this case that it can cause offense, and make many members appear obnoxious fools, thus putting this forum into bad light. Yes correct a huge sentence full of absolutely no regard to those reading it, but it is the people that correct for one bad spelling mistake that makes me slightly annoyed.

First off, cool story bro.

I really do not care, and I'm not going to relax my standards just because you have a sob story and children are ignorant.
This is exactly why I am annoyed Just because you are oh so "perfect", you feel the need to put everyone under "sob story" and "children are ignorant". You have obviously a small view on the world if you believe this. Also, point in mind, this was not a 'sob' story as you put it. I got annoyed and felt like speaking for half the forum members that may have some form of difficulty and/or do not feel the need to put up with people correcting them on every damn mistake they make.
