You know those people. Maybe they do it to try and be cool, or just to troll. The people who go into threads like "manly traits" (clearly not all that serious a thread) just to go "I don't think masculinity is important, the idea of being "manly" is stupid!" or the even more annoying ones that go into "You have X amount of money to make Y" threads and go on about how they would clearly put all that money to a charitable cause. Because they're clearly such Paragons of light, up there on their pedestal.

So what kind of forum buzz killing irritates you?

Oh the dreaded people who can't pick out blatant sarcasm and then call you out on it like your some sort of asshole. Also rude grammar nazis I can take it if I spelled something wrong but you don't got to be a douchebag about it.

It has to be any post/thread/member that mentions the phrase "I have lost my faith in humanity".

It's just... ugh... fuck off.

That and people who show up in alcohol/smoking/sex (that relate to experience, not opinion) and go "I don't drink/smoke/have sex because I'm so clever and moral". If the thread is asking your opinion on any of these, fair enough, but don't comment in one just to point out how being dull makes you better than everyone else.

It's gotten better, but there was a time when every thread about alcohol, tobacco or recreationals would have at least one person asking why 'I don't do [X]' wasn't included in the poll [where applicable]. There are a lot of things I hate about 'nerd culture', but that attitude irks me the most. It reeks of sour grapes, and not the wine kind. Because alcohol is for frat-boys and people who get laid.
Whatever happened to that hacker subculture that was tied into cyberpunk and the rave scene? Did it ever exist, or was I just duped by The Matrix?

Oblivious sarcasm ones are the worst in my opinion. Or I'll make a clever joke and everyone has the need to quote me on it like I didn't realize I typed out what I did. Happened recently. 10 quotes of "DURR HURR, YEAH, I COULD MAKE A DIRTY JOKE FROM THAT, BUT I'LL STOP, YOU SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU TYPED?"

*shakes head*...sigh.

I don't drink/smoke or have sex right now ... I did that about 10 minutes ago I need a rest for a few minutes.

Know what you mean though it it bugs me aswell. Mainly because I do drink/smoke and have sex.

I also agree with you on the "I have lost faith in humanity" bullshit. Get sick to death of seeing whiny little shits putting that every time they see someone step on a bug or some crap like that.

I agree there is no reason to be rude about grammar, but at the same time, I can understand why they would be that way. I know it really irritates me when I go onto any website, mainly forums, and I see sentences that are just wrong. "i think we should just chill out and talk i mean, its not like there hurting anyone, yeah?"

Hurts my mind. I find it hard to read and understand, and I am a rather intelligent person I think. Do I correct it? No. Do I want to? Of course. Do I get frustrated? You bet. But I have a bit more restraint. I am not saying, by any means, I am without fault in grammar and spelling, but I can appreciate well-written stuff and cry over the poor stuff.

OT: I think my biggest irritant is when someone types "/thread" after their comment, like they have the final say and everyone will agree with them always. The whole point of a forum is to discuss different points of view, so why would you think everyone would agree with you? And on the same topic, who died and made you God?

I'm afraid I never mastered the art of all three at once. Give me time. Hats off to you though.

What I dislike is even though everyone on here fights for rights, that they demand rights of speech...once someone states an opinion some will jump on that User and tell him/her pretty much that 'Your opinion is different from mine thus you're WRONG!!' sort of response. It becomes a very hostile/crappy situation when really it's just an opinion and you shouldn't let it get to you at all.
......

You....

You do realize that someone debating/attacking your opinion is...stating their own opinion, right? Both of you are asserting your opinion. If they are at odds with one another, a debate might ensue. Realistically, if you don't want your opinion refuted...ever...you need to not air it in a public forum, which tend to exist for no other reason than to foster discussion and debate.

I really, really, really do not understand people who are allergic to having their opinions challenged. It's not the end of the world, you know, to be presented with contradictory viewpoints, or to be forced to defend your precious beliefs. It doesn't have to "get to you". It just helps you think outside of the box you're stuck in as a result of your upbringing/social status/gender/etc, etc, etc.

I'll /thread in a joking manner, but never seriously.
I did get an actual /thread when I posted Yakety Sax in a thread about the worst music to have sex to.

OT: I really don't like the hipsters that hate on stuff just because it's "mainstream".
Like Facebook. A lot of people hate on it here, but I rather like it, since it lets me talk to friends who live across the state, and I can't see.

It always seems to bug me when they go "/sarcasm". I know it's hard to tell intent with words sometimes, but it just irks me for some reason.

I hate it whenever someone tries to bring real world debates or logic about a game that so obviously doesn't use them.

For example, "TF2 is wrong because no one can double jump."

No fucking shit.

I can't even remember the last time I wasn't smoking, drinking, having sex and abandoning my faith in humanity simultainiously (does me passing out count?).

Actually there was that one time with an octapus...

Speaking seriously though, I agree with what you're saying. Not indulging in the various vices our society has to offer doesn't automatically make you more moral than anyone else and it certainly doesn't make you cleverer than anyone else (for the reccord I don't smoke or drink and I haven't had sex but that's completely independant of my morals and intelligence, it's just my choice).

As for the 'abandoning faith in humanity' thing, I have never once seen it used in a context that actually would shake my faith in humanity (a repeat of the Holocaust would shake my faith in humanity, CEO's of gaming corperations doing things that will improve profits is just business).

Oh, you misunderstood what I was saying. I love debates and I always like to get my opinion in but respect the other's opinion. What bothers me is when people are so dramatic about their opinion that they pretty much flame anyone who disagrees with them. See, here's what I mean which I shall make an example.

Me: "I think that prisoners should be tattooed if they ever commit a crime, because they already violated rights of society thus don't deserve them."

User: *Quotes me* "No, prisoners should only be tattooed if they are murders/rapists/child molesters. Most can try to redeem themselves later in life."

See, that's a good debate. I like those, and if anyone disagrees with me then it's fine plus I know that people have a right to debate. But, this is what I dislike right here- these types of debates (if you can even call it that..)

Me: *Quotes me* "I think that prisoners should be tattooed if they ever commit a crime, because they already violated rights of society thus don't deserve them."

User: "Excuse me? You're a Nazi for thinking like that- prisoners deserve rights. How retarded would you be to even think or consider that a good idea in the first place? NO, just NO!!"

.. . ..Yea, and sad part is most do it to others without breaking Escapist rules, but could be seen as 'trolling' in a sense. I'm glad to debate, just don't bring the person down on a personal level because of what they believe in you know?
Yeah alright, that's fair. The ad hominem attack does seem to be the go-to rebuttal for most people.

That kind of shit is why I turned off the "notify when quoted" feature. If I ever care enough about the contents of a thread to go back rather than just share my thoughts and leave, I'll do it on my own, so I'm not missing anything anyway.

Isn't you insulting people who don't do those things by calling them dull being just as annoying and a "buzzkill" as you find them to be? If they're trying to play moral high ground then yeah that's annoying, but still, not drinking, smoking, and having sex doesn't instantly make you dull.

Options like that should be included in such polls. It's a public forum, so if you're going to poll people, make the options varied so as many people as possible can find something to pick. Instead, everyone's too busy making polls where the only options are some variant of "yes", "no", and "bacon lol" which pretty much destroys the point of the poll in the first place. You aren't getting and kind of serious discussion or votes because everyone picks the random option.

No, it doesn't. To me though, going on about how great not doing those things makes you does.

Buzzkills of the forums? I'd have to say all of those ones where the OP claims to have lost their faith in humanity. Even that one where the guy asked other people why they lost their faith. It was clever, but I knew that somebody actually took that one for serious and made a big rant about something. Glad I didn't see it.

For me I hate when people give an unwanted opinion about something.

Example: On a couple Super Bowl threads or College Football threads you'll get one or two serious replies, people who answer the question/give their predictions. But then you'll get a bunch of "I watch Real football, not Handegg" or "Sorry but I think it's all stupid".
Obviously they're allowed to post that, but I really wish some people would just keep their mouths shut on topics rather than just inflating their post count
