Call me a newb, but I find it very hard keeping track of things here.

How come there's hardly any categories? Is the forum just too much of a by-product of Escapist?
With the amount of threads created and the big number of folks posting I find it very hard to keep up with things. Especially when not logging in daily to check.

Yes, I know you can follow threads that caught your interest. But I prefer to just check topics I care for and not search pages of stuff to find them. So how come there's only four huge categories where everything is getting stuffed into?

I dunno, maybe to keep discussion lively - I prefer gaining a wide range of replies on a topic, as opposed to 3 or 4 because everyone is spread out.

I actually find it more handy to only have a couple of subforums. Making more would just make it looking like mush (I've seen it happen to another forum)...

Oh you :D
Well, I'm sorry you don't log in everyday. If you're trying to find forums that interest you, use the search bar! That's what it's there for.

I pretty much only look at threads on the main page and they're from every topic, so meh.

I think the system works rather well. The only section that tends to get ignored somewhat are the review threads: the poster-to-viewer ratio is quite lower than other sections. Or at least it feels that way. It seems that the majority of the threads that attract attention there are about *certain* games, a.k.a the big exclusive titles. It's a little disappointing to see that not many people will post on reviews of smaller games. Still, some guys like D_987 keep things lively. I'm sort of guilty of avoiding review threads myself: but I shall do my best to correct that.

First off- NNN000000000000000BBBBBBB.

Secondly- If you go on something like Bungie.net and there are lots of categories, it gets very confusing.

Well its a gaming website, and there is a gaming forum, and one that is not about games...I don't really see the problem. Subcategories = less people in a certain district for each subcategory. Some people on here only float around in the Off-Topic, while some only stay in the Gaming.

I can see clustering being an issue. But watching how threads and posts go here, kinda in landslides, would it be? Isn't it already? Sure, you can overdo it. But underdoing it messes and mushes things up just the same.
And yes, I suppose bookmarking is a good idea here, heh. And I guess the 'what's new' helps. Searching only helps if you already know what you're searching for though.

But something like:
100 most recent posts

- Gaming
-- 100 most recent Gaming
-- sub-categories

- God & the World
-- 100 most recent off topic
-- general
-- pictures
-- politics or whatnot...

- Software
-- ...

- Hardware
-- ...

Sure it would split things up, but wouldn't have to mean worse. Not trying to step on your toes. Just wondering mostly. :)
