Ok, so I have been here for a reasonable amount of time now and the amount of things you people can do that I cant is starting to annoy, this has reached its zenith recently when I tried to embed a video in a post and couldn't, so fellow escapists I would dearly love to know how
1. To put words in italics and bold
2. To make text larger and different colours
3. How to underline stuff
4. How to write in really small letters
5. How to write stuff and then pt a strike-through though it
6. And how to embed a bloody video
7. Why people get put on probation/suspended/banned

Thanks any help really appreciated! :))
P.S. Feel free to tell me anything else useful about these forums in general

Italics: "[ i ]" to start (without the spaces or speech marks), "[ / i ]" to end (again without)
Bold: "[ b ]" to start, "[ / b ]" to end

Then you're on your own.

I think underline and strikethrough may be "[ u ] [ / u ]" and "[ s ] [ / s ]" respectively, but I'm not sure.

As for why people are on probation, it's because they were naughty, naughty people and should be spanked and taken off Santa's list.

ok, as a seasoned Escapist, here are the answers...

1. Italics are done by putting [ i] and [ /i] in between the words you want italiced. so, if you do [ i] this sort of thing [ /i] it becomes this sort of thing
2. larger texts are done in 2 ways as far as I know... [ h1] and [ h2]. same theory as the italics. Colour is [color= then whatever color you want, such as [color =red]
3. underlining is done via... I don't know actually, lol
4. small letters is either [/ small] or [/ sub]. Sub is generally smaller.
5. striking is done via then [/ s]
6. embedding is done via [ youtube= then the code of the youtube video here. I don't know if you can do non-youtube vids.
7. Cause people break the rules.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.116826 Forum Guidelines, for why people would be banned.

video:

this is a normal youtube link
http: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI_wWlz2Rck&feature=rec-HM-r2

cut off the bit after the '=' and add it here.
[ youtube=MI_wWlz2Rck&feature=rec-HM-r2 ]

and uhh striking is [ strike ] then [ /strike ]

Welcome to the forums! :D

Edit: graaah, ninja'd by so many people

Without the spaces in between the square brackets:

[ i ]Text here[ /i ] For Italic. [ b ]Text here[ /b ] For Bold.

[ color=whatever colour you want ]Text here[ /color ] Purple, for example
[small]Note: you have to type like an American for this.[/small]

[ h1 ]Text here[ /h1 ] [ h2 ]Text here[ /h2 ] [ h3 ]Text here[ /h3 ] [ h4 ]Text here[ /h4 ] For different sizes.

[ u ]Text here[ /u ] To underline stuff.

[ small ]Text here[ /small ] For small text.

[ s ]Text here[ /s ] For a strike-through.

Fist comment in videos or breaking the rules gets you put on probation / suspended / banned. [small]Although you can only get suspended or put on probation for first post on a video.[/small]

Ignore what this man says. Header tags are intended for use in making headers (e.g.: Top of a page). Using a header tag when you want to make larger font is not only a formatting nightmare, but an express route to convincing God to kill another puppy.

Adding to what Sky said, strike can also be done simply with and [/ s].

You can also do the less used things such as [ small][/ small] which gives you [small]small text[/small], as well as [ sup ] [ /sup] to add [sup]superscript[/sup] and [ sub ] [ /sub ] for [sub]subscript[/sub]. These are actually stackable so you can make [sub][sub][sub]really really small text[/sub][/sub][/sub]which can be entertaining.

You can also centre your text. Simply use [ center ] [ /center ], but make sure it's the American spelling.

Obviously, left align is automatic, and right align is.....
...achieved through [ right ] [ /right ]

The same applies when aligning images. If your image is big, try using [ img height= ] then add a pixel size after the =. A good size to use is usually about 200-400, but always use your preview to check it's size.

Videos have been covered and other basics are shown in the links provided by many others, as have all the rules. Be nice to people and you probably won't get on the wrong side of the Mods, they're a friendly and easy going bunch who only really crack down hard on you if you bring it on yourself.

Have fun with BBcode, it doesn't take long to get used to, and keep testing, you never know what random things you can make it do!

Edit: Oh and if you find someone doing something you still don't know how to do, click on quote, check out what code they used and use it yourself, just don't post the quote ;)

We should have [marquee] and [blink].

It would make troll threads just that bit more visually annoying. :p
