I was sitting in front of my computer yesterday and it had just gone past midnight. I had boxing the next day but I thought I'd check out my clan website to see if anything new had come up because I hadn't checked it all day. There was a link to another thread deeper back in the history of the forums. I opened up a new tab and kept on reading. When I finished I went to the new one and began to read that. It referenced a couple of other threads that were even further back so I did a search, found them and put them all in new tabs.

Basically it just kept on going like this and I look at my clock and now it's 3 in the morning. Stunned I think about how late it is and also about going to bed. This is when I notice another link at the bottom of a page and open that up. This rarely happens to me but it has happened a couple of times and every time I don't learn my lesson and just keep opening up new topics. I dread what'll happen if I go too far back into the Escapist because I'll just get bogged down and become a recluse :p.

My question is has this ever happened to you? It happens a lot on youtube for a lot of people I know that for a fact but is it common for forums as well or am I just an oddball?

You mean procrastinating on sleep to go on the internet? Yeah sure, all the time.

Do you mean the wikipedia effect [http://xkcd.com/214/]? It has other names, as a simple google search will tell you, but that xkcd link was the first time I read about it so that's what I use.

It can happen with everything that's interesting to read. Forums, google, IMDB, wikipedia and websites like wikipedia.(wookiepedia [http://starwars.wikia.com/], tvtropes [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Tropes], WH40k lexicanum [http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page] to give a few)
