Hello everyone, I am new here, originally brought here by a Zero Punctuation video. I have been lurking a little over the past month before I decided to make a profile here. I have read http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.116827 (the forum guidelines and rules) and I have seen many different users placed on probation for posts that were seeming within guidelines (my opinion) but punishable anyway.

I just want to say I am NOT trying to make an argument nor am I criticising anyone. I just would like to know if there are any unspoken rules here before/if I become a more active member.

The forum guidelines are pretty comprehensive, but "don't be a jerk" is a good rule of thumb. Also, don't post NSFW pictures except in very specific circumstances where it's okay.

Welcome to the escapist. Basically don't be a pain, have a fairly thick skin and think before you post/create a thread are the most important ones.

Moderators putting someone on probation have to pick a post. Basially, the person might be on probation for a long list of minor offenses and not just the specific post that's linked to. Just don't be an asshole and you should be okay.

Yeah, what has been said. I don't very specifically follow the guidelines, I have my own inner sense of what's okay, and what's not.

how do you post threads?

If you click on "Forums" at the top of the web page, You will see the Forum categories (i.e, Off-Topic, Gaming Discussion etc), click on a category, then in the top right hand corner above the "Latest Post" column and below the Search bar, You will see the "New Topic" button. Click on that.

If you have any issues with mod action, send a PM to one of us or contact us through IRC, IM etc. We're here to make the forums a more comfortable place in general. Some things about the place take a little while to understand.

Welcome, and I will give you 2 words of advice:
Our site search bar sucks, you'll be better off typing the phrase into Google followed by "Escapist".
Secondly, always check the date of the last post. Necroing ancient threads is highly annoying.
