Forza motorsport is confusing

Hiya escapists.

I recently tried to look around the net to see if there are any confirmed plans for the next installment in the Forza motorsport series; and the results I got were quite confusing:
IGN [http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/077/077615.html] already has a preview page up for Forza 4, saying the game will launch sometime in 2011, and containing a few videos showing off the Kinect-compatability.
So I guess Forza 4 will launch in 2011 and be Kinect compatible.
However, from Forza motorsport's own webpage [http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/default.htm] I get the impression that these videos were from a feature called "Forza motorsport 3 Ultimate collection". (Also, they announce that Forza is now co-operating with Top gear, *happy face*)

It seems like Ultimate collection is already out, but damn it, I can't figure this out.

So I wonder: Is there anyone here who knows whether Forza 4 is officially under development, and whether the videos in question are from FM:UC or FM4?

I havent researched it, but IGN has been very wrong before. Wouldn't trust them very much. Besdies, it seems to soon to launch a sequel in 2011 when theyre pumping out car and track packs by the second.

See, that's what's bothering me. The last game was released fairly recently; and it would seem like a Forza 4 already in 2011 would just be a half-assed attempt at milking some money out of the franchise: And I respect Turn 10 too much to think they'd do something like that.

One person? Seriously?

I was hoping to get some help here, but all I've got is confirmation that IGN isn't really reliable.
It might seem like driving games aren't really that popular here.

Turn 10 rarely says anything about their new games until they're just about ready for the wild. I've been following the Forza franchise since it was first announced for the Xbox(180 :p) and that's the way it's been.

Leading up to Forza3 they were calling it "the next big thing" and bragging about their water physics. The forums lit up with ideas like "Forza Watersport" and even came up with logos... it was a running joke for a while (some of the T10 guys even had T shirts made with the Forza Watersport logo on them). Then they teased about helicopters and speed boats. It was really quite funny.

But I digress.

I wouldn't count on any news related to FM4 for quite some time. Previous releases were on a 2-year cycle, which would put FM4 in November 2011. I wouldn't count on it though. There might be some news at the next E3, but you're going to have to wait with the rest of us Forza fans.

The Forza 3 Ultimate edition is basically the GotY edition, including all previous DLC and a few exclusive cars (called the Stig's garage pack) for, I think, $30. No Top Gear test track though.

The Forza Kinect demo was just a demo. I don't think that FM4 will be Kinect only, but may include some sort of head tracking or walkaround garage (ala PGR2). Or something...

If you want more info than that, you're going to have to lurk on Forzacentral to see if BADNED drops another hint about it. He only drops hints as NDA's prevent anything more, but he's the man when it comes to FM info.

Thanks. I actually knew most of that, but I couldn't figure out whether the stuff they showed on the last E3 was supposed to be from Forza 4, or just an expansion/tech demo for Forza 3, much thanks to IGN making that site, advertising Forza 4 with those videos.
I did not, however, know that they were not going to include the top gear test track. Which is a pity, since I would totally have bought the expansion pack, had they included that. Now I won't though. And I think that goes for a lot of other players as well.
I would so have loved to go around there in the cee'd.
I'll just have to hope they'll have it in Forza 4.

Thanks for clearing this stuff up. The internet really made it seem like it was already announced.
(I do, by the way, remember the Forza watersports episode... I was so annoyed at the time.
What?! No! They should be working on creating a greater driving experience! Forza is about cars! Why the hell would they spend those resources on implementing boats?)

By the way. With the Ulimate collection coming out. How many cars does that make for the Forza garage in total? A little less than 1000, is it?

IGN and Gamespot like to post anything that may be considered an announcement just to drum up interest. I think it has to do with their "wishlist" options in their user profiles so users can get direct info on the game when it's posted. It does get misleading at times though.

It is pretty weird to have a Top Gear endorsement along with the Stig and not have the test track, but I'm more annoyed that I'd have to buy another version of the game for the 10 "exclusive cars" included with the Ultimate Edition. I hope they become DLC in the future because any car I don't have is ghosted online and looks like a VW Jetta. There's an 82 page ***** fest on the FM.net forums about it too.

I think the car list is around 650 or so, maybe pushing 700 by now, but I haven't counted lately. Now you've got me all curious, I'll check when I get home.

All this Forza talk is making me want to drag out my wheel and boot around Fujimi Kaido now...

About the number of cars. The original Forza 3 had 400 and some cars, right?
The homepage says the Ultimate collection will compromise 500 cars. So... Is that counting the cars that were in the original game, or are all those "new" cars?
In other words: Are there nine hundred cars in total, or are there five hundred?

I do imagine, if the coalition is sustained, that the test track will at least be included in Forza 4 though.

You sure you don't want to boat around Fujimi Kaido?
Jeez, my puns are horrible

Yeah, now I'm really going to have to check when I get home. I think I'm mixing up my original car number with my car list number + DLC...

I believe the number is the original 400 (or so) cars, plus all the DLC...

Ah forget it! I'll defer to the almighty BADNED
Complete car list so far [http://www.forzacentral.com/forum/forza-motorsport-3/31595-forza-motorsport-3-%5Bfinal%5Dcar-track-list-%5Bwip%5Ddlc-list-%5Bupdated-october-28th%5D.html]

He says 521 cars, so I was way off base, whoops.

At least 75 of them aren't Skylines [/badum-tish]

I guess I could take a new Dodge Challenger down the mountain, that's as close to a boat I can get. :p

IGN are morons. this is fact.
seeing as I already have F3, getting this game seems silly, I'd rather just pick up GT5, and take mah skylines round the top gear track. because yeah, there's 52 (counting the GT-R) of them, but you know what? the dudes whom do GT5 also developed the in-car computer for it, so its natural, and the skyline is an awesome car.

This is true. They had a page for Gears 3 up the day of Gears 2's release.

Yeah, they announce things, but...

Another question, do you know if all DLC cars have a working cockpit? I might just buy a pack and that'll be enough.
All the cars in the game have a working cockpit, don't they? I would assume the same is the case for the DLC.
This isn't gt5 we're talking about here ;P

Physics Engine did mention you may try to look for news on Forzacentral.

Hey, I'd love to agree with you, but many race cars don't have rev lights or displays, the outline of the dashboard is there, but it's just black plastic. It looks pretty weak.

Unless there's a very recent update I missed?
I have no idea, honestly. I haven't taken the time to check the details.

The Ultimate Edition is out now. It's basically Forza 3 with all the DLC and the extra Top Gear bits like an episode/documentary I think. Imagine Fallout 3's Game of the Year version, but for Forza.

And yes Forza 4 is coming. It's basically Forza 3 from what I've heard but with Kinect as the steering wheel.
