Is anybody aware of the Foundation series of novels, the first book Foundation in particular.

I was just reading about about how director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 10000 BC) on board to direct an adaption of this "classic" novel.

I just wanted to know peoples thoughts on this book and if it is a good read. Spoilers free please.

The Issac Asimov one's I assume right? Meh...I prefer his Robots series to be honest, Foundation, Foundation & Earth etc....were just too slow paced for me, and often a little surreal sometimes, but not in the way I like it.

Of the whole series, I liked Foundation and Empire the best. The Mule rules!

What makes them a supposed classic?
They're a continuation of the "Robot" series (after the "Empire" series). Daneel is a principal character, for example.
