After the first movie i thought a sequel would be about dealing with what is left over. Tons of aliens and ships still exist. Either that or they will use the tech to gain better weapons and technology and kill the aliens when they next attack. But even then they said the aliens move from planet to planet in the mother ship so everyone died on the mothership. There is no home planet or anything.
