Heh, I personally gunned down every single pixelated civvie in that airport, then switched to the M203 and finished the rest.
The point is, it's A GAME, which most people (Politicians, etc) don't seem to understand.
Next time I go through, I won't shoot anyone.
Just be careful from now anything. So much as an late library book, and the media will be in uproar about how Modern Warfare 2 has corrupted your innocent, law-abiding mind, and turned you into a delinquent, criminal dreg of society.

I don't think Australia has anything to worry about. Videogames are never in the news on television, and very rarely in the paper, for the good or bad. Not that I've seen anyway. Still, any bad publicity, regardless of the location, will have a negative impact on the industry as a whole, so I hope someone sorts these people out quick-smart.

I didn't see it, but i can guess it was a "terrorist simulator".

Fox complained about GTAIV as well. What do you expect from such a right wing network? Quality, balanced opinions!? Pah! People watch fox to be afraid.

Tell me, did they do what they did with Mass Effect, and pull in a Game Expert and then not let him talk?
No, they pulled in someone just as moronic as them who couldn't put up a valid point even thought they were basically laid out in front of him. The FOX guy said "You get to play a terrorist, that's real bad m'kay?" and the "expert" says "No you don't, you're undercover... uh, what was I talking about?". And that same argument goes on and on.

Actually the Daily telegraph the day before MW2 came out had 'Virtual Terrorism' as a massive title on the 3rd or so page with the by line of 'Civilians killed on camera'. People who didn't understand seemed to just eat it up. Took me a bit of explaining that the media are sensationalizing it all. Also, the paper demanded to know why the game was not rated R... Which showed how much research went into it.

Finally. Yes, Modern Warfare 2 joined Manhunt 2, Mass Effect and others in the list of games bitched at by Fox News.
And I fucking love it because as soon as Fox takes a stab at a recent video gaming controversy, everyone understands how retarded that controversy is. Thanks, Fox News.

You'd figure that it would have been the whole
Invasion of the US
that would have pissed everyone off or that it would have been the Russians who would have taken offence (seeing as how the level involves you attacking a Russian airport and killing what I'm guessing were Russian policemen).

While I'm not suprised that yet another controversy has been started over a game I am suprised that it was started over what (by most objective standards) is a fairly patriotic and pro-American/pro-western game.

If it was between 1 - 8:30 it doesn't count as news.

No really, a Fox CEO said that their news started at "12 at midnight to 1:00 pm" to "8:30 to 11ish(I can't remember that number)"

So you can kill as many innocent people as you want in gta4 yet you cant kill a few in MW2. thats weird.

Nobody is surprised that Fox is denouncing another facet of popular game culture as the Devil, but it's really getting old. I'm sick of "fair and balanced" news that paints teens as little Terrorist Cells in training. We're all sick of Fox telling us the sky is falling every 15 minutes. Honestly, the only way to get rid of Fox without violence is to never watch it. (not even when something good is on)

At the same token, this might help their sales. A lot of people like controversy and they'd want to see it for themselves. More celebrities get press about doing something stupid and wrong than they do for helping out a charity or something. If anything, this is MW2's silver lining in the crap colored sky of the America media. If it were really all that bad, I highly doubt that the wonderful people that do the ESRB ratings would let it pass through. But, what are the odds that the people at FOX actually played the game themselves?

Probably a slim chance. They probably got it from some stark raving parents and just YouTube'd that scene. Oh the horror. /sarcasm

Since it took place at 6:50 AM today, we'll have the Youtube footage in about five hours tops.

Someone needs to figure out a formula for how long it takes any given video clip to appear on Youtube. Variables should include the amount of lulz gained from watching, the popularity of the subject matter, the amount of copies of the video originally available, and how controversial it is.

Nevermind, I have made an equation.

[HEADING=2]T = (K*N)/[C/(P*L)][/HEADING]

T=Amount of time that a video takes to appear on Youtube, in 1/10's of a day
K=Number of kittens/cats in video+1
N=Number of copies of the video originally available
C=Controversy rating of video (scale is 1-10)
P=Popularity of video (scaled 1-10)
L=Lulz that the video gives the veiwer (scaled 1-10)

By this equation, we have T=(1*400-ish)/[10/(1*1)], which works out to T=4. So either I should change T to hours, or I've over-estimating the number of copies originally available.

Meanwhile, at the FOX HQ.
Employee #1: And we'll then do a segment on the effect heavy metal music has on children; satanism is the key theme here, we need to get them scared for their children, 'cause, you know, why not?
Employee #2: Brilliant.
Employee #3: Profoundly intellectual.
CEO: Wilson, you fucking genius, I wouldn't be surprised if you were the god damn batman himself.
Employee #1: Heh-heh-heh, all in a days wor-
The door opens very suddenly, a panicked tall man of wiry appearance walks shakily into the room.
Employee #4: Sir, I.... I've just gotten word from the gaming department that modern warfare 2, a ridiculously overhyped, fun, and very popular game depicts a scene which could be taken as an offense by only the whiniest of attention whores.
CEO: My god.
Employee #4: You better take a look at this
5 minutes later
CEO: My god.
Later, in the parking garage:
CEO: Alright men, gather around. This is how we're going to do this. Wilson!
Wilson: Yes sir?
CEO: You'll be on air horn and megaphone duty. You're going to scream up and down the mainstreet like a fucking idiot crying about saving the children and whatnot.
Wilson:Marvelous idea, sir!
CEO: We'll need more though... It's time to call in... her.
Cooper Lawrence enters the garage amidst smoke

CEO: Cooper.. You are the best of the best. We need you now, more than ever. Can you do this?
Dramatic stance
Cooper: Does it involve no facts and pointless trashing of something tame and skippable?
CEO: No! We're dealing with terrorism here! SKIPPABLE TERRORISM!
Cooper: Alright, I'll do it...
Hard Rock Outro

OT: This much is expected from FOX. It was inevitable.

Can't say that I didn't expect it, the morons at FOX never learn.
THEY never learn? They're making lord knows how much money by capitalising on people's fear.

Surely it's the general public that still watch the dumb channel/ show that never learns?

I guess I'm the only person that is siding with Fox on this issue. Never thought that would happen. I'm not usually part of "Ban this sick filth!" but come on.

South Park has already made it clear that one fourth of all Americans are retards. If they make a Fox Network joke then my comment will be useless.
