FPS Flood

I love, and play, all high profile titles of the following genres:

FPS, WRPG, JRPG, Hack N Slash, Third Person Shooter, Adventure, games with crazy acrobatics/freerunning (I actually LOVED Prince of Persia 2008)

The market is just over-saturated with FPS games. Every few months a new one comes out that is the next "big thing that you need to buy", the end of last year it was Borderlands, ODST, MW2, and L4D2 in quick succession. Like them or not, they were all high-selling, well-reviewed FPS games.

January was pretty much dead, as usual. Aside from Mass Effect 2, which isn't an FPS, but is merely the only January release worth mentioning.

There was just AvP (which I think is shit, but that's just me) in February. And that Bioshock game.

Now, Bad Company 2 is shaping up to be the next big thing. And Metro 2033 is looking like a sleeper hit, too.

I like the FPS genre, and I like online multiplayer, but I'm done. I'm not going to play AvP or BC2 or any other "big FPS" this fucking year.

I'll make exceptions for Bioshock and Borderlands on my schedule, because of their non-generic "Shoot aliens and terrorists and zombies" gameplay. Although...Borderlands enemies were generic, the RPG part of the game was not.

Everything on my DS, and there's a large number RPGs there.

Everything on Steam that I have, including MORROWIND

I'm barely able to get though the few RPGs I played.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW FUCK! I checked my e-mail while making this topic, and Gamefly (Game renting version of Netflix) just sent out Bad Company 2 before I could remove it from my queue, so I guess I'll give that a quick run through the campaign. So, it looks like thats the last "Big FPS" that I'm playing this year. Well, besides CoD7, because that's going to be in Vietnam, and that's a rarely utilized setting.

There are just too many high profile FPS games that you "gotta play"...And the RPG lover in me suffers for it. Although, my procrastination on beating Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age are for completely different reasons, unrelated to this. I can't decide on a class...In ME2, its either Vanguard or Adept...and in Dragon Age, the choices are immeasurable.

I have avoided half those titles and am soon about to get Mass Effect (then probably Mass Effect 2), that's my choice and my money, not the developers. I used to be the kind of person who bought every single game that I thought looked good, seeing as I have more important things to spend money on now I simply pick the best of what I see, and ignore those that look "good, but not great".

I don't have the money to be buying lots of games (or in fact, any games until april really) so I don't have this problem. Whenever I buy a game, it's because I really want it, so I just ignore most of the big name FPSs.

i only buy the games from it that i think are going to be worth it, just don't buy everything. the fact that you have left your ds or wii alone isn't realy the fault of the fps games, you can take them or leave them, noone is forcing you to buy those games

OT: I just play older games and enjoy the new good ones, since I have a strong hate for the FPS genre I really dislike how all the biggest things are FPS.

Elitism, nah. More like anti-Elitism. I play for fun. I just run around with stupid classes in MW2 and die a lot. My proudest moment is when I went 3/26. But my overall K/D ratio doesn't matter. The in-game one does, because well, I just play TDM.

If I've bought a game, I've already made damn sure I'm going to enjoy it more than most-else I could do with the money. Let me clarify, when they say anything like the following "I'm going to turn off my game, because I'm doing shit this game, and don't want them on my record." or "Aww, man. I sucked. I only went 15/10." (Which is pretty good, as its positive, and positive is, well, positive)

After 2 months of nothing but Dragon Age and Mass Effect, it's nice to get back into the first person view and play a bit of Fallout 3 and Bioshock, but I'll be fucked if I'm going back to playing FPS online.

I love that policy, seriously it is a number not a representation of skill or something to boast of. Seriously take MW2 there are hundreds of boosters who have better k/d's than you and nobody who plays you can tell the diff or could care less. So why not try and enjoy the game instead of camping like a *****.

OT:I know outside of the FPS genre there are slim pickings. Heres hoping for FF13 but I wont hold my breath...

I like FPS games, but I usually ignore them. I have enough RPGs that I still need to finish on both my Xbox360 and PS2 that I will be working on those before I even think about starting a new shooter. I will most likely be waiting until mid summer until I pick up Modern Warfare 2 and even then I probably won't get ODST until the price drops to a reasonable level (knowing Microsoft, never)

I like FPS games, and I don't care if a ton are coming out or not, since I really don't even have time to play the games I bought last year and still haven't touched. Others, like ODST and MW2, are overrated and boring.

I don't see why you are saying this about now and not about, say, 2007. First and third person shooters are okay but they don't take up more than a tenth of my gaming time.
