FPS Flood

These games will still be here in a year, and probably much cheaper by then. I play whatever appeals most strongly to me and pick others up when they're cheap or I have time.

I do think there's a lot of room for differentiation even within the shooter genre. A multiplayer-focused title like Battlefield or Team Fortress can compliment a Half-Life, Bioshock, or Metro 2033 (or STALKER) very nicely. I certainly didn't feel overwhelmed with shooters when I bought the Orange Box.

Discuss how you deal with "FPS Flood".

I just ignore it.I have yet to try most of the BIG FPS of the last two years.I only finished Borderlands once.I've not even touched MW2.As in I have yet to even try it.
That's just how I deal with games that grab me in no interest.

But isn't the same true of RTS and RPG games? I personally enjoy FPS's and I feel they are the best way to tell a dramatic story, unfortunately it's very difficult to do that, and much easier to simply deliver a story in the traditional method (see Mass Effect) but I like interactive linear stories.

A game being a "must buy" does not make it so. You are blaming the developers of FPS games for your lack of self control when it comes to buying them. If you want more RPG's or whatnot then go and buy one instead of yet another FPS, nobody forces you to play them.

I'm a pure gamer. I don't watch movies, and I don't watch TV, so that gives me more free time than the average gamer.

I don't "buy" them, to be fair, I rent them. And love them. But the reason I buy so many is to keep up with my friends, who are always playing them online. And these aren't friends like "XxSn1p3rxX", these are actually non-douchbags. I have a strict "mention your K/D ratio in a serious manner", and you're booted from my friends list policy.

Elitism, nah. More like anti-Elitism. I play for fun. I just run around with stupid classes in MW2 and die a lot. My proudest moment is when I went 3/26. But my overall K/D ratio doesn't matter. The in-game one does, because well, I just play TDM.

you could do what i do and just be done with fps for a while, my whole competitive side is burnt out to the max, so im going full on rpg from now till probably through the summer

I can't do that completely. But yeah, thats the plan. I might play some MW2, but otherwise, its RPG city.
