FPS on the NDS?

Many people have been saying FPS games would never work on the Nintendo DS. This has been apparently disproved with games such as Metroid Prime Hunters and Call of Duty: World at War. What do you think? Is it really working? Any thoughts on specific FPS games on the DS?

You do know that there was this little tech-demo that was originally released together with the Nintendo DS, right?
It was called Metroid Prime Hunters.

The full game was a bit of a let down, but the tech demo showed that the FPS genre could work quite easily.
Plus I've heard nothing but good things of the CoD game that was released on it.

It's just a shame that most developers aren't even trying to do anything with it.

I loved Metroid Prime Hunters on the ds.
the touch screen worked really well with not only the attacking but also with the movement.
The ds would be a great syestem for smaller scale fps's.
it would just take time to make one that really realky worked well, sometimes i would find my self trying to go past the screen borders or accedently hit the morph ball or weapon change icon so i would haft to take time to reposition my hand.
For the ds to become a great platform for fps's the studio behind the game needs to take time to look at the ds and come up with new ways to play an fps.

I didn't try Metroid Prime Hunders, but the CoD4 wasn't too bad.

I heard Moon was great, though.

it was a bit of a let down(freakin same 2 bosses the entire game) but they tried.
And to me it showed that with some work and polishing a fps could be amazing on the ds.
The CoD was also a good game, to me, it just needed a little fine tuning to become a great game.

There are a lot of ways we could have put that back in the day of PC being the dominant system:
lol FPS would never work on Console games i mean it would be dumb and the graphics would be gay and the controls would be just UH

... Notice how I don't how to actually, you know, change your quote at all to make it fit for consoles. Except for DS being changed to Console. Anyway, point is, if it's done right, it doesn't matter what system it's on at all.

My personal opinion is that they can work fine as long as they're done well. WaW, as I've mentioned, kicks a lot of ass, so I think this game is proof that the FPS can work on the DS. In fact, I can't stop playing this game. I'm probably going to play it some more after I'm done typing this comment.

Metroid Prime wasn't TOO bad I guess, except for trying to switch to ball form and missiles while in combat....

The only problem I find with NDS FPS is that the system simply cannot handle this type of game yet.
You simply can't put that much stuff on screen, and FPS sort of lives and die by 1) it's pacing, and 2) it's graphics.
Since graphics is out of the question, pacing ..well.. the DS is not powerful enough to handle Quake pace either, so that goes out the window. Not to mention the lack of AI and enemy type. That really ruins the game for me.

Of course good directing can solve a lot of things, and proper application of gimmicks and probably make up for everything else--but I have yet to see a game that successfully pull that off. (Metroid did well, but other games are still failing hard on this aspect)

Wow.

...wow.

Anyway, it's perfectly possible. People complained at first about hand cramps and whatnot, but that's something one gets used to rather quickly, and the unique control scheme actually works rather well once you find a comfortable position to play in.

Any gamer worth the air he breathes understands that technological limitations don't inherently make a game "dumb," nor do bad graphics affect the quality of a game beyond the possible enhancement of atmosphere (assuming, of course, that they're at least good enough to tell what's going on, but that's not too much to assume).

Point is, yes, it can and has worked rather well before. As well as on consoles? No: but the DS is about uniqueness and portability, something DS shooters have pulled off well.
