My laptop recently hit the graveyard. I only had it about 2 years, but the motherboard fried. The rest of it is in surprisingly good shape. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a particular avenue I should try for selling what's left of the machine. is that a viable option? If so, where should I go to find willing buyers? How much does one usually make with such a venture?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

You're not going to get much cash for a dead machine. You best bet would be finding someone who can tell which parts are still working, and try to sell them for cheap. Otherwise, you won't get much else out of it.

Your hard-drive, ram, and graphics card will probably fetch a bit of money if they're still working; try ebay. Obviously test them first, plug them into another machine and see if they work.

GPU's are mostly embedded into a laptop's motherboard, so he probably won't be able to sell it.

The only things you can sell are RAM chips and HDD, but prepare to be "disappoint", since you won't get much from it. Probably a fourth of what they cost you in the first place, maybe even less than that.

Totally agreed.

To be honest, 50 bucks (assuming you're American) is an optimistic estimate.

I sold a friends water damaged laptop on eBay last year for £55, so there's always the option to sell it whole, and someone will probably buy it.
