Franchises you will defend forever?

I'll defend Shin Megami Tensei to the death. It's the one series that hasn't had a game that's bad. The storylines and setting of each game are unique, deep and dark which you don't find in many RPGs at all. The majority of those that insult the series have usually never played a game and judge on appearances only.

Actually I believe there was a Sega SMT game called "Ronde" which was part of the "Majin Tensi" spin off series that was retleased for the Sega Saturn that was almost universally panned if I remember. I also believe this is why it took so long for them to make another attempt at SMT Market penetration (though I'm glad they did).

Not really any, but if I had to choose, I would probably say most of the Valve franchises and Banjo Kazooie.

The Mario RPG would be my other one, as long as you don't count Super Paper Mario. The rest of the games where all fantastic.

Tell me, how did Super Paper Mario not stand up to the rest of them? I thought it was a superb game.

Well, I would say Tomb Raider Civilization and WoW, but despite the good memories and my avatar, over the last year wow became all of a sudden awfully boring. I tried to go back to it over the last month and I can't play for more then 3 minutes without logging off and thinking: "wtf brought me to this game in first place?!". Then I realise: "Oh yeah, I didn't have a life, now I have one so that's probably why."

Not sure about forever, but I really like all the Blizzard series of games, liked em since I was little. Let's hope Activision doesn't rock the boat as much as we all fear...

Obviously I wouldn't defend it forever, regardless of quality, but I will always defend Zelda against people who criticise it for never changing. Clearly, these people have either never played Zelda or are just being over-cynical, 'edgy' trolls. Every Zelda feels very, very different in tone and in nature, just looking at the surface and going "ohh, it still has a hookshot and a Princess in it, WTF Nintendo rehash!" and so on is stupidity of the highest order.

None as far as I can think of. No series is above reproach. They all make missteps sometimes and frankly they SHOULD. If they never misstep, chances are they're not pushing the envelope far from the tree...or something.

It is a beautiful game. While gameplay may not be as strong as say, God of War, the story, the characters and the atmosphere makes it more than a game. It makes it something to be experienced.

Sounds vague enough to interest me. Give me a PS3 remake or something and I'll play it.
