I've recently been looking into making an FPS game, but I don't know what program is best for building and animating everything. I've experimented a little with Blender but I was wondering if there was anything easier for me to get started with. Any program advice and/or tutorials/model databases would be appreciated.

I would say something like the Unreal Deveopment Kit would be great for FPS creation. DOn't ask me how to use it though. If oyu have the patience I'm sure you could find a beginners guide somewhere

I'd recommend taking a look at Softimage Mod Tool [http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=13571257], it is a free version of Autodesk Softimage (formerly Softimage XSI), designed for modders. It has some limitations, but it should be adequate for your needs.

As for engine, I'd say, start with the Source engine, I have not used it myself, but I have looked into it a bit, and unlike UDK or CryEngine, there is a lot of user-friendly documentation (including how to work with source in relation to Softimage Mod tool) available at the Valve Developer Community [http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page], check it out for instructions on how to get started.

And good luck, remember, creating a game is a huge process, it will take quite some time, and if you don't know the tools will be working with, I'd recommend doing some simple stuff to learn the ropes, before tackling your "main" project.

Let us know how it goes, and as a final advice, write down what you want to do, before you start, take notes, draw sketches, write scripts etc. It will make everything a lot easier.
