I want to record videos of things in game and I was wondering what was the best thing for doing it with. I can do it with xfire but xfire doesn't always work well with Steam. I am currently looking at WeGame and was wondering if it is any good or does anyone else know anyb good free alternatives.

Fraps is alright. Makes large files but it is a good program. Can also benchmark with it. HyperCam I am unfamiliar with but I hear it is alright too.

Yah, Fraps is the way to go if you have the money. If not, don't bother with the free version. It's a fucking joke.

I wouldn't recommend the free fraps either. I'd just Google it, you're sure to find something good.

If you don't mind me asking here in your thread OP (I'm gonna do it anyways :p) I downloaded the demo version of FRAPS a few weeks ago, but I don't know how to record my damn gameplay! Can anyone take pity on a dirty console gamer and tell me how?

I've also tried taking screeshots using the Print screen method, but when I paste it into Paint all I get is a black box. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to help this modder on Total War Center fix a graphical bug.

Free Fraps isn't a very sound decision, but if I remember correctly, HyperCam isn't bad, as long as you don't mind the watermark.

I use FRAPs myself, but then I payed the small fee a couple years ago and got a legit full version so I've no clue how other video capture software works nor how good they are.

Easy. Open it up, should be somewhere in your start menu, then go to this page:

Find out what the video capture hotkey is, then whenever fraps is running (Minimize, don't close it!) hitting that key once will start recording, and hitting it a second time will stop. Video will be saved to wherever you chose them to be. You'll likely be able to tell when FRAPS is recording by a dip in your computers framerate as it's a bit of a hog to run at the same time as a game, although the high-quality video is worth it.

As I recall free FRAPS has a time limit for video and also watermarks em, keep that in mind as well!

Alright thanks for the help, I'll test that out. That lag is going to be a pain in the ass though, my laptop (I know I know!) already lags...on low settings.

Thing about it is, you only get 30 secs of recording time. No joke.

Well I only want it for the screenshots anyway, so no worries. :p
