It has been confirmed that it is literally impossible to get the "sharp breath" ending without playing at least a match or two of MP. I think the max EMS you can possibly get without MP is like 3800 or something and you need 4000 to get the special ending (that includes the DLC). A lot of people are mad about it, but who really cares. A 20 second clip with no context is pretty meaningless anyway.

EMS or TMS? Its an important distinction. There are tons of number crunchers on the BSN that proved its impossible.

You are not alone, man. I thought those other classes looked cool, but I personally have no interest in the Geth or Batarians. The Krogan looks pretty good, though.

Anyway, I am most interested in the biotic barrier. Ever since the suicide mission I've wanted to be able to use one of those babies. Now I have my chance, except I have to play a damned Asari. :/ (My main being Human Male Adept)

Oh well, we'll see how this all plays out. I still haven't unlocked Krogan soldier yet. I need to play more Multiplayer!

Have to say, I'm shocked.

I honestly never thought I would hear the words "EA" and "Free" anywhere in the same sentence.
(I guess that leak was legit, who'd of thought it?)


Now, speaking rationally, it's an obvious marketing stunt on their part.
And it still doesn't undo all the bad they've done over the years and in the last few months with Mass Effect.
But, I'll give credit where it's due, this is a good kind of marketing stunt. I can get behind this.

To me, the whole "Free" thing with the DLC is rather indicative of a much larger problem than what Bioware and EA have been harping as a very small vocal minority. It would seem that a rather substantial portion of their base (I'm not willing to say majority at this point) are rather pissed.

My prediction is that it will be a rather lackluster and half-assed attempt. It won't garner as much hatred as the current ending, as it will be old news. What it will likely do is simply remove a lot of interest in Bioware as fans move away from them. It's a relatively common occurrence in the videogame world, where the Developers simply cannot maintain the support of their fanbase by essentially half-assing their products.

As for the multiplayer being free, it's expected for that part anyway at this point. The multiplayer is pointlessly dull and uninspired, so the only way the can maintain a strong enough player base is by added slightly more pointlessly dull material to it.

So really, interest will wane very quickly. The ending DLC is far to little, far to late (Which I'm absolutely certain they were planning on people paying for in the first place, as they have stated many times that this was a planned DLC from the start and EA absolutely hates the words "Free" and "DLC" in the same sentence). The multiplayer has no real viability as a long-term component. Mass Effect, and Bioware, are likely entities on their last legs.

That whole "vocal minority" thing came from that IGN douchebag. That guy doesn't know anything about anything. Does anyone even know how statistics works? The majority of the fans who are registered at BSN and other gaming forums are pissed. Just because the ACTUAL majority of the ENTIRE fanbase isn't registered on gaming forums doesn't mean they aren't pissed either. For example:

-game sells 10 million copies
-2 million fans are registered on gaming forums
-1.3 million of them are pissed
-0.7 million are satisfied

It doesn't mean that those other 8 million are satisfied just because they are not online complaining about it. It doesn't mean they are pissed either, but if the majority of those that are registered online are pissed, statistically you have assume that the majority of the ENTIRE fanbase is pissed. That's how statistics works. It isn't perfect but that's how it works.
