Free Photo Editing

Hey Escapist, I'm looking for an open source photo editor. I did a Google search but I don't know what is trustworthy or not. Can any one that has one please help me out?

Either "Paint.NET" or "GIMP" is what I'd recommend. "GIMP" has more features, and is closer to "Photoshop". "Paint.NET" is faster, and is better if you don't need a lot of features.

Thanks, Gimp is what I was looking at but I wasn't sure if it was safe. I'm downloading it now.
