Good thing I downloaded GamersFirst and the closed beta of this game months beforehand. Still, it's a lot to download.

Was in the closed beta for a while, for their re-imagined APB. Problem is, the game is not fun at all, in fact its mostly frustrating. Save yourself the trouble, skip this one.

I still don't know why did APB fail so fast.
Because the game was getting raped by hackers and exploiters, and wasn't generating enough money, as people started to leave do to the ease of people to hack.

There was a huge exploit where 3+ people would get together as criminals and enforcers, and one side would keep taking missions against the other, and win over and over again, till they were 5 stars, and work together to kill randoms that tried to collect bounties as they farm their friends. If you saw the same person constantly getting 5 stars, and they were always in a single spot in the corner of the map, that was what they were doing. And most of them used wall-hacks and things of the sort. I was their worst enemy :)
I expect that http://wallofshame.sanparo.org/ will see increased traffic soon. They haven't fixed the ease of hacking at all.

I played it when it was RTW/Live. It had the foundations of a good game, but with about 6 months of hardcore "We can change anything we don't like" work it could have reached good. At a year, possibly great. Unfortunately, it seemed like they just implemented all the individual mechanics but didn't link them into a cohesive game. It seemed like a whole bunch of "Web 2.0" bullshit of creating new paradigms in customization and expecting players to make all your content for you, at their cost! There were tons of bugs and the hacks and exploits were everywhere. Matchmaking was hideous and those with max-level weapons with 3 mod slots could basically violate any newbie that came around. There needed to be more variety of missions and more flexibility too.

All of these things could theoretically be worked upon, but I have very little faith in these Asian dev houses that turn out expensive, mostly forgettable (with some gems here and there) "F2P" MMOs that really turn out costing later.

So, i played for about 5 hours and all i can think "Is this it?" No real story, no real missions besides the PvP. And not even very good PvP. I can't believe they charged full retail plus subscription for this.

Maybe it's just a beta problem, but the system for getting a mission is really bad. You press the ready button and wait. More often then not, i was assigned either to a multi-player mission that is already in progress, or a 1v1 mission that is boring as hell. There's nothing worse than the last step in a mission where you have to hold a capture point for 5 minutes in 1v1. It turns into a waiting game, hoping that you'll see the direction your opponent is coming from and get the drop on them. Someone dies, and then you repeat 40 seconds later or so.

I played as a criminal and the only things to do was either get into the mission queue or go mug pedestrians. I was hoping for some kind of variety.

I'll assume that this type of game is a good fit for the free-to-play model. but as a retail game, i can see why it failed spectacularly.

was in CB for a long while, ever day for a couple of months, then not as much after a while, other games had my attention, but since it went OB, been trying to get friends to play :D i'm still on from time to time :) quite a fun game, and an AMAZING amount of work went into it from RTW to G1 vertions.

Yeah, but it won't update for me. And when it did it kept droping from 30 kps down to ten by half an hour then just stopped.

Seems the download is flooded, may try it a bit later.
I never did hear good things about it, essentially they left tons of exploits in there, hope the new company patched all the holes.

I find it hilarious that this article comes up the day I told my brother about this game's abysmally short lifespan.

I might decide to try it out, seeing as how it's free and all, but I'm going to look at some gameplay footage to see if it seems any good.

FYI, the basic premise of "cop vs crim shooter with advanced customization and multiplayer action" reminds me a lot like Brink. Not complaining or arguing anything; just something I noticed. At the very least, this game's faces don't look like they belong in a kid's snack commercial.

I have been playing this for two weeks now (I got in the last round of pre-open beta keys) and while most of the gameplay is pretty solid, any Australian players (like myself) will suffer potentially game-breaking lag. Combat is doable, driving is impossible, and missions may run out of time. Why is this so? No dedicated Asian servers. Europe has 2 of them. North America has the other 2. APB is still a fun experience for Australian gamers, just be prepared to occasionally lose firefights because you just dropped out.

I remember being in one of the Beta-Tests back when it was promising and couldn't be bothered to actually play it more than about three times.

That said, as a concept it's still kinda interesting and who knows, maybe it's becoming actually worthwhile.
Won't find that out myself however.

I didn't realize they had a site like that to help ban the hackers. But I noticed they are still using punk busters, which is the same RTW used, so I don't know how thatll turn out. :/ But thanks for the link, I know I'ma need to make visits there before long. Haha.

That's a fan site, not official.

GamersFirst has a "If you post videos of people cheating we will ban you" policy.
