EA's project = this = hated

Ex-Westwood guys who left EA Project = http://endofnations.com/en/products/founders-edition/compare-benefits/ = not hated.

I do believe this is an issue of the who bringing the game rather than what the game is.

As for now Ill refrain from commenting on the quality of the game since not enough info is out to make an informed opinion about it. Once I have more than a 1 min trailer ill give in my 5 cents.
Its not who it is, its what it is.

The Trion guys never completely shat on the game with one installment, then decided to shove the next one into f2p.

If they had created a whole new universe for their f2p game, people likely would just shrug and go "ok whatever" like they do with End of Nations, but its the fact they take something existing and try to Frankenstein it into something else (ex: Syndicate, CnC4) that annoys people.

If you really cant tell the difference between people being annoyed because its EA and people being annoyed because a series is being butchered (more) then... well theres not much that could help you.
Ok.... You say

"Its not who it is, its what it is."

But then go to point out it is indeed because it is Trion making one rather than EA....

Yeah way to undermine your own point.
actually I simply hate the game since its p2w which means it will suck. Doesnt care who develops it, f2p pretty much always gives a low quality game.

These are my feelings exactly, Generals was easily the best C&C game for me, and now this...

Yup same.. and same with my friends.. yeah the other C&C's were great.. but there was just something with Generals and the multiplayer :p uncountable hours spent on multiplayer with my friends... F2P mmo's is alright.. but.. RTS?!.. really?.. screams EA all over it.. :'( yet another franchise they have ruined forever(generals franchise.. C&C was ruined long ago with C&C Red alert 3.. already there it went wrong).. *sob*

Ugh, I am not usually the one that goes all fuck EA. But in this case... FUCK EA. They continually stomp on my favorite RTS franchise growing up and this news is just depressing.

When Generals 2 was first announced I was optimistic that they learned their lesson. But no they scrap the single player and solo skirmish and make it F2P. That says to me it will either be very shallow or the microtransactions in place will wreck any semblance of balance.

I just hope that DICE gets to escape the incompetent EA some day before they get run into the ground.

C&C 4 and now this... gives me the impression EA is just flailing in every direction hoping to hit the 'unseat Starcraft as dominant RTS' button instead of actually working on innovating the franchise.
Because EA has never tried aping or outright crushing another game franchise before, right?

Oh...

Anyway, I've never been a huge fan of RTS' and never played a Command & Conquer game, so this doesn't really effect me that much.

EA are the necrophilers of video games, just let this game die with honor & respect instead of milking it.(get it? :D)

I swear if the escapist had a rep system mine will be about -50 right now xD.

Yea thanks, but no thanks EA.

I love the C&C franchise, up to and including RA2 & Renegade. Generals onwards was just.... well, it wasn't C&C anymore, mainly because EA had steamrolled it into homogenous paste because they just didn't understand what made it great and the people who did- Westwood Studios - had basically given up and most of them left.

Interesting though how it's gotten progressively worse over time. As I see it, the very best thing they could do is re-hire the old, proper westwood team and tell them to get cracking, but they won't, because that would imply they were wrong.

I don't understand this corporate mentality...
"Look, there's a highly successful franchise: Let's buy it out and take the profits."
"OK, but I think we should muck around with the Dev team because they CLEARLY don't know what they're doing, as the game is not nearly successful enough."
*game is rubbish because of the mucking around*
"Game was no good. This just proves they're idiots. Let's break up the studio."

SURELY the WHOLE POINT of buying up a successful dev team is to let them do what they do best and cream off the profits, not destroy the entire franchise and studio that developed it. (see: Bullfrog, Westwood et. al.)

So nobody has brought this up yet, but there's another F2P RTS that actually works pretty well. It's called Age of Empires Online, and if you don't immediately get turned off by the art style and actually play it for a little while, you'll discover that ultimately it is a solid Age of Empires game.

It works because the payment is in the form of one-time payments to unlock bonus features for a civilization or extra game modes such as a survival game mode and a skirmish mode and such. It's not pay to win because most PVP is played using a mode which even disables the loot and such. (Or, if you actually like loot and such you can play with it on, but you don't have to)

If they build Generals 2 like Age of Empires online, I'll actually enjoy playing it.
