Hey. Me and a random group of friends need some FTP games we can enjoy while bored. However, we all have very different tastes, so we need something relaxing yet fun. Imagine back when you were young and everyone played Mario Kart? Something like that.
No matter if someone enjoyed shooters, or fantasy, or RPG, or Fighting, EVERYONE agreed that Mario Kart was something everyone enjoyed to play. So, is there anything similar today that you can play either against each-other, or coop? Doesn't have to be FTP, but not cost more than 10E (15USD) at least. Heck, any game of multiplayer fun that doesn't take HUGE commitment will do.

Hearthstone, Warframe and League of Legends are all good from my experience, though League has the typical "if your team are jerks you have no fun" MOBA characteristic. I've heard positive things about Dragons and Puzzles (I think that's the name) but haven't actually played it at all.

I second warframe, especially if you are playing with a group of friends, it's quite fun and a little addictive. And you never need to spend any money on it if you don't want to .

League of Legends is good, but I wouldn't recommend playing it by yourself. I've tried playing League by myself sometimes, it's not fun, I only play with friends at this point. Or you might want to wait for Heroes of the Storm if you're looking for a game with more game modes and a less defined meta game.

If you're not interested in MOBAs, Team Fortress 2 could be a good choice. There are classes for people who don't like shooters. Only the Scout, Heavy, and Sniper use traditional guns as their main weapons, the other 6 classes use different weapons. And it's a silly game, so there's no pressure to win all the time.

Team Fortress 2 is your best F2P choice. You can set up your own server with your own rules and have a blast. As for games that cost less than $15, Counter Strike: Global Offensive is a lot of fun with friends.

Did Warframe got anybetter since it started? I checked it out in a very early version and it was soooooooooo dull. 1 Gun, the same corrdiors/enemies for hours and not really a clue what you're doing except running from one planet/station to the next to run through the next bunch of same corridors to shoot another bunch of same monsters.

And playin' 2-3 hours brought me about 0.00000000001% closer to a new weapon. Yay.

Casual and League of Legends definitely do not go together. It's almost guaranteed that you'll get flamed for being new. The best casual F2P game in my opinion is definitely Hearthstone, but that's not exactly for a group. However, a good F2P game that just came out on Steam is Fistful of Frags. It's a Western FPS where you have to drink whisky to regain health, what could go wrong with that? But seriously, its a load of fun. Its one of the few FPSs that I don't get frustrated with and can keep playing even if I am on a terrible death streak. Its not exactly a AAA game, but then again, not many F2P games are. As such, graphics are a bit dated but still decent enough. And as it just came out, not all of the features have been implemented yet. And perhaps the best part, is that there is no monetization whatsoever, its just a free game based on the Source engine. And it is populated so if you want to play online there are many other players.

i wouldnt call TF2 casual but its the best online FPS there is, let alone the best free one, the skill floor is pretty low as well, you can start playing and have fun immediately without feeling completely outmatched

im also enjoying hearthstone and in the past ive also enjoyed blacklight retribution and path of exile

Well, since you're also looking at games that are merely cheap and you liked Mario Kart maybe try Sonic All Stars Racing? It's on sale very often (if the Humble Spring Sale is still on, it's pretty cheap there; about £5 in a pack with a bunch of other Sonic games, IIRC) and is a surprisingly enjoyable little kart racer.
